The win extends St Brendan’s unbeaten run to three-straight games, and sets up a mouthwatering final round showdown with Dolphins Cup rivals The Cathedral College.
Gilbert was at his terrorising best on the left flank, scoring one of his own and helping set up a double to winger Narassi Jimmi including a brilliant grubber through after making a break.
St Brendan’s five-eighth Lockyer Hill also nabbed a double in the big win, although his opening try of the game did appear slightly controversial after a defender was taken out off the ball byt a decoy runner.
There was no second guessing his second four-pointer though, diving across from dummy-half after a jaw-dropping first carry from bench forward Jaxson Wyman.
St Brendan’s coach Scott Minto will be [particularly pleased with his side’s relentless defence throughout the second half, refusing to give an inch to their rivals despite leading by 24 points at the main break.
Emmaus College v St Brendan’s College (Challenge)

St Brendan’s led 26-0 at halftime in the Year 10 clash before running away in the second half with a 46-0 victory over Emmaus College.
Emmaus College cemented its spot in the Schoolgirls Cup Pool C finals series ahead of a final round bye.

While named at fullback, Jenkins played in the halves for Emmaus, and showed her impressive football IQ on a number of occasions to set up tries while she also showed her sizzling speed to get on the outside of her rivals for a try of her own.
Jenkins helped set up the first four-pointer of the day after rushing around the back of the ruck to create a numbers advantage on the shortside.
Fullback Isabelle Jansen, with the 13 on her back, was also invovled in plenty for the Emmaus side including a solo try of her own in which she swerved around four defenders on her way to the tryline.
Emmaus has locked up a spot in the finals, but will likely face Confraternity Cup champions The Cathedral College after they continued an unbeaten run through the competition.
PREVIEW
Emmaus will be up against it as they look to keep their Dolphins Cup hopes alive on Tuesday.
They face a red-hot St Brendan’s in the must-win clash and will do it without some key personnel, including their gun five-eighth Harri Meilland who suffered a broken thumb in the recent Confraternity Carnival.
The game, which kicks off at 5.30pm, is part of a triple header of schools footy action that you can watch live and exclusive on Kommunity TV.
The same two schools meet in the Dolphins Challenge at 3.30pm, while Emmaus will tackle North Rockhampton High in the NRL Schoolgirls fixture at 4.30pm. Watch all three games LIVE in the player above.
Emmaus has shown plenty in its opening Dolphins Cup games but is yet to get on the board.
Coach Mitchel Smith said he would have to make some positional changes and tactical adjustments due to the injury list.
“Everyone’s a bit disappointed with how we’ve gone; we’ve competed in all our games, we just haven’t won them,” he said.
“We need to win this one so it’s just a case of next man up.”
Smith said his forward pack, led by prop Jacob Murphy and lock Jack O’Neill, would have to match it with St Brendan’s, and fullback Lathan McMeekan and halfback Will McLaughlin would have to be at their creative best.
St Brendan’s coach Scott Minto said his troops were readying for a tough contest.
“I’m expecting them to come at us with everything they’ve got,” he said.
“Obviously, they need to win and when they’ve put periods together in games this year, they’ve been really strong.”
Defence has been the cornerstone of St Brendan’s performances, with the team conceding just five tries in six games in their third-place finish at the Confraternity Carnival.
Minto wants to see that steely effort continue.
“The biggest thing for us is to keep focusing on the little aspects that have been really strong,” he said.
“Everyone has taken ownership of their jobs and they know what’s expected of them.
“We’re going well as a side, which is exciting, but there’s a lot of improvement in us and if we can get more improvement out of this game against Emmaus, I will be stoked.”
Minto said his starting middles - Cooper Peirce, Brock Otto and Jake Symes - would have a big influence on the result.
“They’ve been very good to date, and they pride themselves on working hard in the middle,” he said.
“Our games have been won through that middle battle and this has allowed our ballplayers time to run our edges seamlessly.
“It’s a good dynamic at present and they will no doubt be aiming to galvanise this partnership further next week.”
