The Victorian teams have a lot to live up to at this year’s boys National Youth Championships in Wollongong.

They swept the U15 and U16 boys titles in 2023, but coach Safi Ayoush insists there is ‘definitely no pressure’.

“The most important thing is to develop and improve,” Ayoush said.

Ayoush’s U16 team is stacked with some of the most promising young talent in the nation.

It includes Joeys captain Jayden Necovski along with Anthony Didulica, Alex Houridis, James Houridis, Besian Kutleshi and goalkeeper Jonty Benfield, who have all just returned from winning the ASEAN U16 Boys Championship in Indonesia.

However, Ayoush said there aren’t any stand-out players.

“Everyone is standing out for me,” he said.

“And the good thing is we’ve got depth, we have good players for every position and on the bench.

“I’m always a big believer in the whole team and I’m very comfortable with what we’ve got.”

Victoria are coming to Wollongong in big numbers.

Although Victoria will be heading to NSW as the ones to beat, Ayoush said no team is to be underestimated.

“All of them, for us, are on the same level, because at the end of the day, you’re playing the best (teams) out of every state,” he said.

“Obviously Queensland and NSW have very good quality, but we’re going to be treating every game the same as if it’s a grand final.”

Victoria Blue kick off their NYC title defence against NSW Metro White at 12.15pm on Tuesday at WIN Stadium, with every match from the championship to be streamed LIVE on KommunityTV.
