Goals from Ashton Hawkett and Kaiden Boldery helped the Invitational XI complete their U16 Pool D commitments at the FA National Youth Championships on a high.

After losing their opening two games to South Australia and Northern NSW to miss out on the quarter finals, the Invitational XI bounced back in style with a 2-0 success over NSW Country at Ian Mclennan Park.

But it wasn’t all bad news for NSW Country after their U15 side edged out Northern Territory 2-1. Goals from Dimitri Pavlou and Williams Johns cancelled out a George Milatos effort for the boys from the NT.

In the only other game at Ian Mclennan Park on Thursday, Queensland Silver have missed out on the U16 final eight games despite beating Tasmania 3-0 in Pool C action.

After NSW Metro Sky had upstaged leaders Victoria White 2-1 earlier, the Queensland side needed at least a four-goal margin in beating Tasmania to qualify.

The NSW Country U16s have also lost both games - a 4-0 hammering by Northern NSW and a tight 1-0 defeat to South Australia. They face the Invitational XI, who are also yet to find their feet in the tournament at 11.30pm.
