Last year they were denied their place in history by Varsity College’s senior girls team.
This year, Queensland school sporting powerhouse, Palm Beach Currumbin, is again chasing perfection, with all four teams in the 2023 AFLQ Schools Cup grand finals on Sunday.
It’s a big day for red and whites, with showdowns against St Laurence in both boys games, and Varsity College in the two girls deciders.
In 2022, they took the junior male, junior female and senior male titles, but Varsity College crashed the party in the senior females.

And if making all available grand finals wasn’t enough of an opening statement, the combined scorelines from all four of their preliminary final victories was a staggering 307-40.
PBC head of sports excellence Neil Mackay labelled the senior boys team as ‘some of the best talent I’ve seen’ earlier this week - and they certainly lived up to their billing against St Augustine’s on Friday.
“There are a few really good players that missed out on making the squad and that is because of the strength of it,” he said.
“The other three teams are really strong, but you don’t know what the opposition teams are going to be like until you get there.
“Our senior boys team is going to be really strong to beat this year.”
The junior male and senior females divisions will see a 2022 grand final rematch.
Hear from all four captains of the teams ahead of the finals series.
SENIOR BOYS
Seniors boys captain Lachlan Ferguson said there is something really special about his group ahead of their preliminary final showdown against Cairns school St Augustine’s College.
“Keen to play against St Augustine’s, they took it up to Helensvale, so it will be good to have a bit of a challenge on a Friday,” Ferguson said.
“We have a really strong side for finals, Will Graham is back for the first time this year.
“Playing a twilight game actually has everyone pumped to play at that time frame.
“We don’t really know much about St Augustine’s, they are a bit of a dark horse.
“We hopefully will have all the teams around us and can have a really good crack at them.”
SENIOR GIRLS
Senior girls captain Kiara Bischa said she is focusing on putting in one of her best performances as she chases the AFLW dream.
“It is a privilege to be able to lead this team out on Friday, I have been here since year seven, so hoping I can leave a legacy,” Bischa said.
“This weekend is honestly one of the best weekends in footy, heading up to Maroochydore to play.
“We haven’t played them (Marymount College) before, so just really excited to take them on.
“My main focus is we win but with the draft at the end of the year I will do what I have done and hopefully see myself be able to take that next step.
“Being a Gold Coast girl, I would like to stay here, so hopefully (get drafted) to the Suns.”
JUNIOR GIRLS
Junior girls will kick off the Friday festival of footy for Palm Beach Currumbin, when they take on Helensvale at 2pm.
Juniors captain Willow Fredericks said it is really exciting to clash with Helensvale in a final again.
“We haven’t played them (Helensvale) in a final in a long time, so I expected it to just add to our rivalry together,” Fredericks said.
“They are one of the tougher teams we have played against and expect nothing different with this game.
“The school program has done really well for all our teams, to make finals again is shows how strong it continues to be.”
The first bounce for both junior and seniors boys is at 6:30pm, with both teams taking on St Augustine’s.
JUNIOR BOYS
Junior boys captain Jackson Jarvis said it was a huge honour to share the captaincy with Ned Lawton.
“It is really good to be given this opportunity, I have been in the program for three years,” Jarvis said.
“Now have been given the chance to lead the boys and be sure to impact and lead by example both on and off the field.
“I am most looking forward to just getting around the boys and versing a school we don’t have too much of an idea of.
“More just having a red hot crack against them and just having fun really, that's the main thing.
“It is really special to have all four teams once again in the finals, hopefully we can all go the whole way this time.”
