After Matrics fought back a four goal difference to force the game to extra time, Garville outscored their rivals 15-6 In a brilliant extra time performance.

While star shooter Elize Guidera led from the front for the Greys, it was their defensive end which proved the difference makers when it mattered most.

Casey Bernheardt, came back to haunt her former club, as she appeared to be reading from the rivals playbook in extra time.

Bernhardt was everywhere, cutting off almost all attacking raids that came near her defensive circle while young gun Zalii Reid made every post a winner after she was brought on to nullify Matrics tower Elouise Nordhausen-Bradley.

The young Matrics shooter was almost the story of the night after she came off the bench at three-quarter time to inspire her side to come back from a four goal deficit and come within seconds of booking their own spot in the decider.

Nordhausen-Bradley incredibly shot 15 goals in the final quarter, and finished with 20 for the match, after she had earlier powered the Matrics reserve grade side into the grand final with a 38-goal haul.

But it was the brave call from Kristy Leonard-Down to bring reserve grade goal keeper Reid with two minutes to go that proved a masterstroke.

As she has done all season, Guidera showed her class on the scoring end to lead all players with 48 goals, while Brooke Irlam found a renewed confidence in extra time to finish with nine of her own after she came on to replace Eliza Grenvold.

Matrics v Garville (Reserves)

A comprehensive preliminary final performance from Matrics reserves side has seen them through to next week’s grand final against age-old rival Contax.

Led by a dominant performance up front from Elouise Nordhausen-Bradley, Matrics powered past rivals Garville 55-36.

Nordhausen-Bradley was dominant in the one-on-one contest, and finished with 38 goals before being given an early mark midway through the final term.

The Matrics defensive three, including brilliant midcourter Olivia Dent, Georgia Kraft and Liv Kelly were the difference makers in the contest snatching up any loose balls or passes from their rivals.

The win did come at a bit of a cost for the Matrics side with interchange defender Sophie Warren being helped from the court in the shadows of full-time with a leg injury.

PREVIEW

Garville remains galvanised despite a painful two-goal loss to Contax in last week’s Netball SA PL qualifying final and will look to bounce back in style this Friday night in a huge prelim clash with Matrics.

The Greys nearly came back from 15 goals down to the reigning back-to-back premier, eventually losing 56-54, but coach Kirsty Leonard-Down believes her side has gained significant confidence from the experience ahead of its big matchup with Matrics this week.

“We were disappointed not to put a full four quarters together and give up a bit of our own game but we took a lot of confidence from how we reset at half time and finished the game,” Leonard-Down said.

“We spoke about solidifying a good start because we actually started positively with some good possessions and an early turnover but we dropped off halfway through that first quarter.

“We’re not thinking we’re off the mark at all though, there is a burning desire there still to achieve the ultimate success and we’ve got a lot of confidence after coming back from 15 down.”

Matrics will also be confident after topping Oakdale 55-50 in its elimination final, producing a consistent performance across four quarters to get the job done and move through to the prelim.

The two sides traded two goal wins in their previous meetings so far this season.

“We know it’s going to be a tough battle,” Leonard-Down said.

“There’s a heightened aspect of what’s on the line but they’re also just a very well-rounded team and I think we match up well with each other across the court in size and style.

“We know it’s going to be an even game so we need to stay committed to our game across the four quarters.”

Star leader Lucy Voyvodic and young gun defender Jemma Kelly will be ones to watch for Matrics, while Tahlia Dnistrjanski and Phoebe Bonner have both been in starring form for Garville.
