A rookie good enough to be in both the Lions Academy U16 and Level 3 Academy U18 squads heads local talent named by the Brisbane Lions for two elite youth representative competitions this season.
Edie Fraser, a young gun from the Coorparoo club, was the only player named in both the U16 2025 Marsh AFL National Development Championship squad, and also the Lions U18 squad preparing for the Coates Talent League.
“She is going to go places. Her goal is to play AFLW and everything is leading towards that,’’ said her club coach Scott Harrison.
Fraser has had a ball on a string since starting at the Roos U8s.
Aged just 10, she was named Best on Ground in the U13 grand final, and played in mixed competitions alongside the boys until the U13s.
Fraser is a goal weapon, a quality forward who has very good foot skills.
She is one of four Coorparoo players chosen in the U16s, and one of two named in the Level 3 U18s.
The other U16 players from the Roos named in the Lions championship squad were:
+ Indiana Scheffler, a deep forward, tall with strong overhead skills;
+ Emily Doherty, a ball magnet who wins possession for fun;
+ Ivy Elder who was a remarkable young athlete who also plays state hockey for Queensland.
Then joining Fraser in the Lions Level 3 U18 squad was Lyla Harrison.
Harrison loves the contest and sparks the team by leading from the front with her never say die attitude.
Her big strength is her aerobic capacity to cover the ground.
“The Coorparoo JAFC is very proud of the program that is running to get these girls from the juniors to playing academy and QAFLW, said Scott Harrison about the five Coorparoo rookie being recognised by the Lions.
“It is a reflection of the player’s commitment to being at our club and the coaches that put countless hours in developing these players.
