Palm Beach Soccer Club has accrued the most red cards across all Football Gold Coast clubs this season – but not most overall.
The Sharks account for 17 of the 162 send-offs across all competitions in 2021, two more than the next-closest club, Robina City SC.
However Robina takes the cake for most cautions shown to a single club this year, with 171 yellow cards and 15 reds handed out.
Of the 24 member clubs eight have had players sent off at least 10 times, while three – Bond Uni, Canungra Owls and Pimpama City – have so far avoided playing with 10 on the pitch.
Bond, Canungra and Pimpama City also feature in the bottom three for yellow cards this season.
Note: Statistics are taken from U13s through to Premier League.

Most red cards in a single game
Six times this season a team has gone down to nine players on the pitch, with Robina’s Men’s Premier League side boasting the unenviable honour of having done so twice.
Nerang’s Coast League Reserves side was the first to be shown two red cards this season in a 5-4 loss to Tamborine Mountain SC on April 24.
On May 22, Robina’s Men’s Premier League side held on to draw 1-all with Burleigh Heads despite losing two players to yellow card accumulation over the course of the match.
They weren’t as fortunate when the same happened on June 13 – Musgrave putting eight past Robina in a heavy defeat no doubt compounded by the loss of two players.
Tallebudgera (Coast League), Southport (Men’s Premier League) and Burleigh Heads (Men’s Premier Reserves) were the other teams throughout the season to be shown two red cards in the one game.
Most cards total in a game
Broadbeach United’s Premier League Reserves were shown five yellows and a red in their 2-0 defeat away to Palm Beach on July 15.
Broadbeach’s six cards in a single match is only equalled by Metro Division 2 South side Kingscliff Green, which received six yellows in a 2-2 draw with Tallebudgera Yellow.
Most red cards shown to an individual player
Nine players have twice been sent from the pitch this season, the equal-most across the competition.
Bilambil’s James Guy accounts for both of his club’s red cards, coming on June 2 and June 23 in the Metro Division 2 South competition.
Robina City Premier Men’s duo Nathan Kelsey and Mitchell Calley have both been sent from the pitch twice, as have Lewis O’Hare and Alex Wilder – teammates at Runaway Bay in the Metro Division 1.
Other players to have seen two red cards this season include: William Yates (Palm Beach – Men’s Premier Reserves), Jake Parsons (Southport SC – Metro Div 1), Bradley Clark (Mudgeeraba – Coast League) and Levi Hilton (Tallebudgera Valley – Coast League).
Most red cards shown to a single team
It’s perhaps no surprise then that the two teams to have been shown the most red cards this season are Robina City’s Men’s Premier League side and Runaway Bay in the Men’s Metro Division 1.
Both teams have received six red cards so far, two more than any other across all competitions.
The Runaway Bay team accounts for more than half of the club’s total number of send-offs (11).
Broken legs and ruptured kidneys: Football Gold Coast’s 2021 injury report card
From August 16, 2021
It’s the quid pro quo every footballer agrees to when they sign-up to play.
Injuries unfortunately are part and parcel of organised sport and in the case of Football Gold Coast, a whopping 214 injury reports have been filed across all competitions so far in the 2021 season.
As can be expected from a game played predominantly with the feet, leg and ankle injuries make up a significant portion of reports.
But there are some quirky outliers – for the neutral, perhaps, though not for the injured player in question – such as broken noses, fractured fingers and in one case, a suspected torn kidney.
The Gold Coast Bulletin has done a deep dive into the 2021 season for a look at the injuries that have plagued players, teams and their respective campaigns.
INJURY BREAKDOWN
Leg / ankle: 125 reports
Arm: 15 reports
Concussion: 20 reports
Other: 54 reports
INJURY REPORTS BY CLUB
*Note: Multiple teams from a club have been combined. Some clubs will field more teams / players than others.
Is there something in the water at Ormeau? Or is the club simply more stringent with its injury reporting than rivals? Ormeau has so far reported just shy of 50 injuries to players this season – 15 more than the next closest club.
Meanwhile, Tallebudgera, Runaway Bay and Magic have all reported just one injury across their teams all season – give the physios a payrise!
Ormeau (47), Musgrave (32), Palm Beach (29), Nerang (27), Robina (16), Tamborine Mountain (15), Pacific Pines (7), Coomera (6), Murwillumbah (4), Bilambil (4), Mudgeeraba (4), Kingscliff (3), Tweed United (3), Southport (2), Legends FC (2), Burleigh (2), Tallebudgera (1), Runaway Bay (1), Magic (1)
WORST INJURIES
Broken nose: In a Women’s Midweek Metro Division 2 clash in April, a player’s nose was feared broken after the ball was kicked into their face.
Surprisingly, this is one of only three reported incidents of a ball-to-face injury this season.
The second came in a Women’s Midweek Metro Division 3 match when an unlucky player was hit, twice, in the same eye socket and taken to hospital with vision troubles.
In a junior game in April a player was also assessed for injury after being hit in the face by a ball.
Torn kidney: In a July Coast League clash, a player was reportedly kicked in the abdomen and hospitalised overnight with a torn kidney.
Broken leg: A Coast League Reserves match in April had a report of a player being taken to hospital for a leg injury. It was updated the following day to confirm he had broken his leg in the on-field incident.
Ligament damage: An U14 Division 1 player required surgery after tearing ligaments in his left knee in a clash in late-April.
Broken jaw: One unlucky player had their jaw broken, tooth chipped and was treated for possible concussion in an Under-18 match in late-June.
MOST INJURIES IN ONE DAY
April 24 – 13 reports
This particular Saturday in late-April would have kept the physios busy, with a whopping 13 individual injury reports filed across Football Gold Coast competitions.
In an U14 Division 1 clash that day, which had a whopping 10 goals shared between the two teams, four players from one side were all listed as succumbing to leg and ankle injuries.
That same club had three players injured in a Coast League Reserves match later that day, bringing that club’s total to seven of the 13 reported injuries – talk about bad luck.
July 21 – 9 reports
A Wednesday in mid-July was just as bad for another Coast club, which accounted for six of the nine injury reports that day – the second-most reports on a single day so far this season.
MOST INJURED PLAYER
Brookelyn Cooper – Musgrave
The unlucky Women’s Metro Division 2 player has appeared on the injury report four times this season, including in back-to-back weeks in mid-May.
Cooper has thrice had to shrug off leg injuries this season.
