The Langer Reserves competition roared past round 4, with Mabel Park SHS, Ipswich SHS, PBC SHS and Keebra Park SHS all hitting the winners post.

At Wavell, Mabel Park SHS’s engine roared loudly to pile drive their team to victory over a trying Wavell SHS.

Powerful front men Dom Ierome and Boston Cochrane led the charge, while hooker Tai Kapaith jumped in behind their slip stream to impress greatly.

Mabel Park SHS opened the scoring when they went through the teeth of the ruck.

First prop Cochrane battered away unsuccessfully, but from the next ruck athletic hooker Kapath picked up rampaging No. 10 Dom Lerome who cut back on an angle to cross.

Mabel Park were in danger of scoring again when dynamic forward Ierome pushed through the ruck and out the other side, but his runaway legs were chopped down by Wavell’s hooker in cover defence.

It was a classic try-saving tackle.

But Mabel Park did score again — about 10 minutes later — when Wavell gave away a penalty while in possession, leading to the visitors gaining the ball and sweeping up the field.

Towering interchange forward Cruz Hoit-Scott then took matters into his own hands, charging from 10m out and taking defenders with him over the line.

Wavell nearly hit back when centre Jai Pattinson soared high to take a bomb, but he fell just short of the line.

Then It was Mabel who scored, with outstanding hooker Kapath scooping up dummyhalf ball and zipping over to score.

Mabel Park had the match in hand at halftime, leading 18-nil.

While Kapaith shone for Mabel, so to did the Wavell rake, Kannon Phillips.

Mabel Park scored the try of the day in the second half when fullback Kamren Watson brilliantly impacted the match, leading to Josiah Ross scoring.

Wavell did score late, with their last gasp rally ending with Eli Browning scoring.

Some of the finest round 4 performers from the competition are highlighted below in our weekly reserves wrap.

Dom Ierome (Mabel Park SHS)

Front rower Ierome led from the front, imposing himself on the opposition with aggressive carries which led to post contact metres and momentum for hooker Kapaith.

Fellow starting prop Cochrane also impacted the start of both halves, but it was versatile forward Ierome who went the distance.

Tai Kapaith (Mabel Park SHS)

It is little wonder Mabel Park’s first choice No. 9 Ezra Leota is a such a good player. He would be benefiting from the competition offered by Easts Tigers rake Kapaith.

The Mabel Park dummyhalf, one day bound for a Langer Cup berth, took full advantage of momentum generated by his forwards to spark his side, both with an attacking pass or run.

Israel Faialaga (Wavell SHS)

The tough prop had a red-hot go at the Mabel forwards.

He hit, spun and fought his way in contact, and used his acceleration and footwork to enhance his chance of success when taking the ball forward.

He toiled manfully against the odds, was brave and was consistently good.

Kannon Phillips (Wavell SHS)

Phillips looked a first class talent. The Year 11 student is sound in his core role but has the running game to really make a difference.

In a pack trying hard but never really gaining consistent momentum, he was still able to ask questions of the opposition defence.

Rikihana Masters (Mabel Park SHS)

Winger Masters had limited chances, but went looking for work from the defensive end of the field, while also making good reads on a dangerous side of the oval which featured a good Wavell centre called Jai Pattinson.

Marino Rimene (Mabel Park SHS)

Rimere added subtle variety to the Mabel Park attack, running with gusto but retaining the ability to pass toward supporting runners.

Ipswich SHS 22 defeated Redcliffe SHS 12

Tyreek Carlo (Ipswich SHS)

Carlo is one of Ipswich’s hidden gems, currently warming his engines for a Langer Cup season in 2026.

The fleet-a-foot outside back had telling involvements from his best position of fullback on Wednesday, after playing well as a centre to start the season.

The West End Bulldogs teen knocked over all three of his shots at goal, scored an absolute beaut when he sliced through two defenders and was generally hard to handle — not for the first time this season.

Logan Dudley, Jed Leafa and Ethan Todd (Ipswich SHS)

The powerhouse trio did the tough stuff well and it laid a nice platform.

The Ipswich backs who scored can thank these three for putting in the ground work that eroded Redcliffe’s defensive line.

Ty Lapatoa (Ipswich SHS)

The wiry Ipswich rake backed himself and it paid off because he scored two tries within 10 minutes.

Ipswich led 10-nil quickly thanks to Lapatoa’s snappy service and smart decisions on where and when to go himself.

His first half decisiveness was all-important because the match was shortened considerably, due to K-Jay Thompson being knocked out and requiring hospitalisation.

Dermott Arthy (Redcliffe SHS)

Each week the little livewire from Western Australia pulls his weight and it demands praise.

Smaller than most but awfully slippery, Arthy was met with big first up contact but somehow managed to slip away from the grasp of his rivals and spring clear.

He did it often and was excellent winning one-on-one battles.

Regan Tomlinson (Redcliffe SHS)

The Redcliffe halfback was playing without his main man Max Carriage because the classy five-eighth left the field early when his ribs were crunched in a tackle.

In Carriage’s absence, Tomlinson continued to run the team expertly and made a brilliant flat pass that put Aiden Gordon on a beeline for the tryline.

He has a sure hand.

Aiden Gordon (Redcliffe SHS)

The left-edge forward caused a ruckus in the North Ipswich Reserve grandstand with his line running.

A crowd favourite, Gordon gave Redcliffe hope when he struck away downfield and into the clear.

He didn’t score but the fact it happened twice showed he was doing something right. His positioning was supreme and timing even better.

Tj Mailau (Redcliffe SHS)

Mailau couldn’t sit still for a second. He was involved in plenty.

He had a true winger’s knock, featuring a ton of return carries, grand cover defence and sound catching under the high ball.

Even reeling in grubber kicks the kid was faultless.

Keebra Park SHS 38 defeated Marsden SHS 18

Isaac Cullen (Keebra Park SHS)

Cullen produced a brilliant display from the wing.

Included in his afternoon’s work was a sizzling try and overall he proved elusive every time he touched the ball.

Gazniah To’omaga (Keebra Park SHS)

Playing in the middle, To’omaga was the leader of the pack.

He was dominant at No. 13, the most difficult forward in the side to contain.

He iced his performance with a runaway try.

Josaiah Lo (Marsden SHS)

A second rower, Lo was a tremendous threat to the Keebra side.

His edge running was a handful and he ran some great lines.

Teariki De Thierry (Marsden SHS)

Playing on the opposite side of the field to Lo, edge forward Thierry provided defensive grunt to his side.

Hopefully he gets more touches with the ball when the competition resumes after the school holidays.

Palm Beach Currumbin SHS 30 defeated Stretton SC 12

Lachlan Charlesworth (Stretton SC)

Charlesworth put in a tireless effort to gain parity.

He never stopped working and made several damaging carries.

Noah Reti (PBC SHS)

Reti was a force to be reckoned with in attack. He produced countless tackle busts and a try in a busy performance.

Blake Constable (Stretton SC)

It was a strong all-round performance from Constable who had some positive touches and defended well.

Brooklyn Campbell (PBC SHS)

Campbell was aggressive and made his presence felt on the defensive end.

A great link player in the middle.

Hunter Harriss (Stretton SC)

Harriss led from the front as a key playmaker.

His crafty moves out of dummy half threatened and his hard work set a high standard.

Ashton Hure (PBC SHS)

Hure produced a stunning performance in attack and defence.

His workrate was exhaustive and his fast feet helped him gain several metres.
