The first double header round of the 2023 HART Sapphire Series kicked off with the TAE Aerospace Jets taking on the Sunshine Coast Thunder.
The Jets came into the match an undefeated side and came out all the same, with a comfortable 13-point win to prove it.
17-year-old shooting sensation, Elsa Sif Sandholt was a standout player for the Jets.
She missed her first shot of the game, but made 42 of the next 43, accounting for a large majority of her side’s total score.
The third quarter was a showstopper as Jets extended their lead out to 14, sealing the deal as Thunder were unable to pull it back
With five minutes to go in the final quarter, Thunder’s Bridey Condren went down with a suspected ankle injury and did not return to the court.
There is no word on how Condren has recovered since the incident.
In the Ruby league, Jets went back-to-back to claim a 65-52 win over the struggling Thunder side.
Meanwhile, there were no surprises during the Sapphire matchup between the Carina Leagues Club Tigers and ACU Brisbane North Cougars.
The defending champion Cougars side were fresh off the back of their shock loss to the Gold Coast Titans last week.
They stepped on court to win 64-45 over the Tigers, reasserting their dominance in the competition and leaving Tigers with another sore defeat.
The orange and black side had high hopes injury recruit Annie Lawrie would provide a much-needed new dynamic in the shooting circle while captain Amy Somerville received ongoing treatment for her knee.
The Ruby side also suffered a loss to Cougars, going down 49-45 and ending their undefeated streak.
In similar fashion to the Sapphire team, the Ruby Tigers were down a shooter as Tia Crombie iced a rolled ankle from earlier in the day.
The decision to bring centre court Georgia Butt into the squad left Tigers struggling in attack.
Australian U17 squad member Holly Comyns made a detour from goal keeper to goal shooter in an effort to shift momentum.
But the drastic tactics were to avail as Cougars claimed the win.
Fresh off the back of their surreal win over the Cougars in round three, the Titans Sapphire side continued their reign to defeat the Brisbane South Wildcats 55-49.
The Wildcats put up a fight but were unable to capitalise on their turnovers.
It leaves them in fifth place on the ladder while the Titans stay put on top.
The Ruby match-up saw a similar outcome unfold, with the Titans coming out the better side by eight points.
While the Bond University Bull Sharks enjoyed a Sapphire Series bye, their Ruby squad mates took on the Barastoc Panthers.
It was an all too familiar outcome for the Toowoomba travellers, who endured another defeat.
The Bull Sharks closed the match at 61-38, adding a second win to their wrap sheet.
