Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Thousand Guineas fields announced

Victoria’s Group 1 racing for 2024 draws to a close at Caulfield on Saturday with the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Thousand Guineas set for decision.

Victoria’s Group 1 racing for 2024 draws to a close at Caulfield on Saturday with the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Thousand Guineas set for decision.

The two spring features were moved from September and October dates to their new November timeslot prior to last year and they were an instant success with high class gallopers, Magic Time and Joliestar winning the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Thousand Guineas respectively.

This year a field of 16 will contest the $1 million Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) with four Group 1 winners sitting high up the weights – Southport Tycoon, Private Eye, Tuvalu and Climbing Star.

The field also includes high quality performers like Another Wil, Gentleman Roy, Jimmysstar, Kimochi, Buffalo River, Charm Stone and Steparty along with a sole three-year-old Bittercreek which will be ridden by Melbourne Cup winning rider Robbie Dolan.

A field of 13 three-year-old fillies has been declared to contest the $1.5 million Thousand Guineas (1600m).

Recent stakes winners Too Darn Lizzie, Aeliana, Zeitung and the undefeated Double Market head up the runners along with proven spring stakes performers Geegees Mistruth, Dominetta, Matisse, Another Prophet, Supercilious and Lovelycut.

The program also includes the $500,000 Country Cups Final (2000m).

The Caulfield track was rated a good (4) at acceptance time. The rail will be in the 6-metre position on Saturday.

Saturday’s 10-race program commences at 12.20pm with the final event to be run at 5.40pm.
