RUN OF THE DAY
It was a photo finish for run of the day between Kiss And Make Up and English — but Kiss And Make Up did it at both ends in lifting to another level by running time into a headwind and really laying his cards on the table for the Longines Golden Slipper. In typical Gai Waterhouse fashion this horse out toughed a small but select field in tradesman-like style.
FORGET THEY RAN
Egyptian Symbol had to be dragged back for cover from a wide draw and never got a cart into the race at any stage. She had too much to do in an on-pace dominated race so considering the circumstances her effort was exceptional.
THE BLACK BOOK
French import Auvray was having his first run in over 500 days and although lacking match practice, did a great job for fourth. The winner of that race Libran looks a real Sydney Cup type and don’t be surprised if this gelding isn’t either. Happy Clapper will drop 8.5kg when he gets to the Doncaster Mile third up and I’m sure he will present perfectly on the day.
RIDE OF THE DAY
Christian Reith showed intent barging his way into cover on Le Romain putting the main danger Press Statement right where he wanted him. It was the difference between winning or losing the big Group 1.
