KENSINGTON

BEST BET

Race 3, No.2: MONEY FROM THE SKY

He struggled to keep up with them early last start over 1600m but really rattled home and gets up to 1800m now which looks perfect fourth-up. It’s time to win again.

NEXT BEST

Race 6, No.11: COMRADE ROSA

She looked the part late in a barrier trial and that should be the case again here in a race. She’s won two from two first-up and that’s no fluke.

VALUE BET

Race 1, No.14: LICHESTER

She will be better for the debut run at Newcastle when running on well. Joe Pride wouldn’t be bringing her straight to two second-up if he wasn’t confident in how well she was doing.

QUADDIE

Race 3: 2, 3, 4

Race 4: 3, 6

Race 5: 2, 4, 7

Race 6: 3, 8, 10, 11

JOCKEY TO WATCH

Hugh Bowman is coming off a Group 1 win last weekend and has good chances here like Maritima, Picarones, Hollywood North, Inuwashi and Comrade Rosa.

TRAINER TO WATCH

Mark Newnham looks to have placed Money From The Sky, Iowa and Mission Phoenix very well.

THE INSIDE MAIL FOR KENSINGTON

RACE 1

Debutant Kazou is set to start a short-priced favourite for Chris Waller but she has drawn awkward in nine so Kerrin McEvoy will need to ride a good race. She looked the part in her latest trial under a good hold but McEvoy wasn’t on her in any of her three heats. Stablemate Maritima has drawn wider but has race experience after running third at her only two starts last time in and she can settle off speed and rattle home. Hugh Bowman has been on her in both trials this prep and look for him to whip her out wide on the turn and let her down in the straight. Lichester should be an improver now at start two after not shirking the task on debut when fifth at Newcastle and she’s drawn to get the ideal run under a leading hoop. Cavaup ran on well on debut at Warwick Farm and probably goes around over again.

Bet: Lichester each way

RACE 2

Picarones didn’t get much room in the straight to make her run last start when well supported. Her backers won’t be sacking her off that and she should start near favourite here from a good gate and more luck is deserved. Our Belle Fille was too good last start at Newcastle as an odds-on chance and beat home a horse that’s since come out and run well so she’s coming to town at the right time and should be on the speed. Typhoon Taavi didn’t disgrace herself last start and is now third-up and ready to produce her best. Vivid Flash got chopped out of a run at a crucial stage last time so forgive the sixth placing but she still needs to improve to win this and she’s at the stage of her preparation where that could happen.

Bet: Picarones to win

RACE 3

Money From The Sky started slowly and didn’t pick up any speed at all early and was eight lengths behind the second last horse in the run over 1600m last week before finally tacking on to the back of the field and continuing to run on for third. Going up to 1800m now suits and he looks ready to win again. Left Reeling was expected to win at Newcastle last start but could gobble them up. She’s a good enough horse to be threatening here and she should be strong on the line. Hollywood North looks ready to go up to 1800m now third-up and any rain will help his cause further but there will still be more than enough give in the track for him as he looks to produce a peak performance.

Bet: Money From The Sky to win

RACE 4

Iowa bolted in at Newcastle last start over this trip when leading all the way when the blinkers were put on by astute trainer Mark Newnham and why can’t he do it again? This is harder but he didn’t exactly fall in to win last time and is bred to be strong at the trip. He’ll have to be good to hold out Essential Sky late after she swooped past them over this trip two weeks ago which was coming given her previous form. Stablemate Bastida probably can’t beat Essential Sky despite getting a 2kg weight pull now but could run a placing.

Bet: Iowa to win

RACE 5

It’s a weak race so it might be time for Pandano to score a city win. He’s a bit hit and miss and either runs top two or nowhere at all but he improved greatly second-up and will like getting over a bit more ground now. New trainer Robert Quinn has sent Vucetich straight to 1400m fresh after coming to him from Godolphin. He has run for a long time but has the previous form to do well in this race off two barrier trials. Mission Phoenix will get over more ground this time in but has won fresh in the past.

Bet: Vucetich to win

RACE 6

Audette gets barrier one and probably leads or box seats this with the best front running hoop, Tim Clark, booked so it sets up well for her off a last start win and she’s on a quicker back up now and should be fighting out the finish. Too Much Caviar goes well fresh but has drawn the carpark which is going to make it hard to win. Comrade Rosa has raced in a stack of stakes races to date and has won both times when produced fresh and she looked the part late in her barrier trial and from a wide gate she will probably be ridden cold and she should be flying home under Hugh Bowman and for a trainer in top form.

Bet: Comrade Rosa to win
