Bjorn Baker says it will be impossible to replicate his golden December, but reckons he can have a magic January as he looks to put his filly Rainbow Glow into calculations for the $3m 2YO Classic at the Gold Coast.
The Sydneysider notched up an incredible 26 winners from 69 runners last month and kicked off 2025 in winning fashion when Iowna Merc won the Canterbury Sprint on New Year's Day.
Baker has Rainbow Glow in Saturday’s QTIS Gold Pearl (1100m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday and the filly could secure a spot in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic with a top two placing.

“She was really impressive at Canberra, it was only last Friday but she has a good constitution and she has recovered well,” Baker said.
“We haven’t even given it consideration, if she did win, if we would back up again into the Millions.
“We are just looking at this Saturday and we will go from there, she is very relaxed so she can handle this.
“With Jason Collett on, I expect her to run really well, I was confident she would win first up and she hasn’t had to do anything since then.”

Baker was the hottest trainer in the country last month and says while luck played a huge part in his success, there was co-ordinated plan to strike in the off season.
“It’s impossible to follow, but we had a pretty good start to January when Iowna Merc won the stakes race,” Baker said.
“It has been an unbelievable run and everything has clicked into place, touch wood the horses are all sound and galloping well.

“When I have had good runs before, they do tend to be around December, I have had one or two really good runs then.
“I don’t know what it is, maybe it's the heat because it is a little bit hotter at Warwick Farm or they appreciate the firm tracks.
“I do aim a lot of horses for off-carnival times, we are in the right time for a lot of them to be competitive.”
Rainbow Glow is a $3.90 chance on Saturday and $51 in the Magic Millions should she make the race.
