I’ve been a massive fan of Kovalica since before he ran in last year’s Doomben Cup when he ran third as a three-year-old.

He then came out and annihilated them in the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m), and a few months later he was pipped in a photo finish in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).

He hasn’t won a race since the Derby, but he’s run in wrong races over the wrong distances, and he’s been cruelled by bad barriers on a few occasions.

However, Kovalica gets the perfect chance to become a multiple Group 1 winner on Saturday.

The race is tailor made for him — 2000m, good track, barrier 3, Queensland happy hunting ground, Nash Rawiller, weakish Group 1.

He’s been the subject of some solid support in betting and is now $3, after opening the day on Friday at $3.50.

He’s a damn good horse, and I just hope he shows his true colours on Saturday because, if he does, we could see something special.

If he gets rolled, I’ll still love him no matter what!
