Overpass and Schwarz draw double digit barriers in Group 1 Doomben 10,000

A few horses that are hard in the market for Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) have drawn double digit barriers while the rider has been confirmed for pre-draw favourite Schwarz.

Craig Williams will ride the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained Schwarz in Saturday’s Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) at Doomben.

Williams, who was successful in having a suspension reduced on appeal, replaces the suspended Blake Shinn aboard the entire.

A field of 16 plus an emergency was declared for the weight-for-age sprint on Tuesday.

Both Overpass and Schwarz have drawn double digit barriers for the $1.5 million contest, as has past winner Mazu, local hero Rothfire, along with Group 1 winning mares Sunshine In Paris and Lady Laguna.

Benedetta was rated as the $6 second favourite prior to Tuesday’s barrier draw and she’s set to step from a favourable barrier in eight.

Of the 17 acceptors for Saturday’s feature sprint, 11 have won at Group 1 level in either Australia or New Zealand.
