Favourite Scarlet Oak draws out in Queensland Oaks

The Chris Waller-trained Scarlet Oak will have to overcome a wide draw if she is to win the $700,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

On Tuesday, a field of 18 plus five emergencies was declared for the last three-year-old Group 1 race of the 2023/24 season.

Prior to final declarations, Scarlet Oak was the $3 favourite for the fillies’ classic and when barriers were allocated she draw 15.

Waller, who’s chasing his fourth win in the race, has a third of the runners in the field with another two of the five emergencies.

Tutta La Vita drew barrier 16, Ahuriri drew 21, Mare Of Mt Buller drew 2, Concello drew 7, Firestorm drew 12, Kenyada the third emergency drew 3 and Ring Me Up the last of the five emergencies drew 9.

Meanwhile, pre-field second favourite, Kiwi filly Molly Bloom for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott drew barrier 10 while Queensland Derby runner-up, another Kiwi filly Moonlight Magic, trained by Andrew Forsman, will jump from barrier 6.
