WEDNESDAY MEETINGS: Doomben (8 races, 12.53pm), Sandown — Hillside (8 races, 1pm), Strathalbyn (8 races, 1.08pm), Warwick Farm (7 races, 1.15pm), Belmont (8 races, 2.34pm).
WARWICK FARM
RAY THOMAS (Daily Telegraph)
GUARD OF HONOUR (Race 4, No. 5)
Promising youngster from the Kris Lees stable who has been a barrier trial star with four impressive wins on provincial tracks but failed at his only start on heavy surface in the Canonbury Stakes behind Tessera. Guard Of Honour resumes here but his two recent trials wins have been brilliant, including his five-lengths defeat of subsequent Randwick winner Conchita at the Beaumont track a month ago. Nicely drawn, Hugh Bowman rides and an improving track surface suggests he is the horse to beat.
STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph)
FIRST PRECINCT (Scratched)
Race 7, No. 7
Team Hawkes have a handy horse here. Proved far too strong over 1200m at Kembla Grange in early May then repeated the dose at Gosford later in the month. Drawn awkwardly here but has the right man in Tommy Berry to do the steering and can send punters home after the last race with another win.
JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph)
EXCITED PRINCE
Race 5, No. 7
Held together well when close-up fourth Wine ‘N’ Dine in 1600m Warwick Farm Bm71 here June 1. Trained on this track and ready to peak now. Rates highly.
SANDOWN (HILLSIDE)
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)
SECRET BLEND
Race 7, No. 5
Consistent galloper who held on well when fourth last start after racing wide throughout. Similar race and from draw should prove hard to beat.
STRATHALBYN
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser)
DEANNA JEAN
Race 6, No. 1
Talented mare who drops back to the 1100m here. She’s an on pace runner who has been around the mark in stronger class. Looks very hard to beat.
