OUR stable of experts pinpoint the horses, jockeys and trainers to follow this weekend.

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman)

ROSEHILL

THE BANKER: BEATEN UP (Race 9, No. 2)

Is a quality import from the Chris Waller stable that has only won 2 of his 9 fresh runs but this is a totally different scenario. The carnival is upon us, he has not time to waste, and frankly if you have watched his trials, you’ll see pure and simple he is ready to roar.

IN THE FRAME: LADY LE FAY (Race 8, No. 10)

Is a Listed winner back home in NZ now on her second campaign with new trainer Chris Waller. She’s here to win Group races and if she is going to do that, this is the one she’ll be winning. Second-up — was very good first-up, look out for her to charge over the top at big odds.

THE RISK: EXCESS KNOWLEDGE (Race 9, No. 1)

He can’t give these others weight and start shorter than them all, surely. Great run first-up and he’s super second-up too but I have four that can beat him straight off the bat.

THE TRAINER: CHRIS WALLER

Follow Sydney’s leading trainer all day on Saturday.

THE JOCKEY: BLAKE SHINN

Riding in fine form. His best ride IMO is Happy Hannah, if she gets a run in the Vinery.

DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun)

CAULFIELD

THE BANKER: LOVING HOME (Race 2, No. 3)

You can back him in Sydney, you can back him in Melbourne. Chris Waller is a master at placing his horses and Loving Home looks the one to beat in the 2400m Bill Collins Handicap after a tough third behind the smart Tucano last start.

IN THE FRAME: BLACK HEART BART (Race 7, No. 1)

If he runs up to his Newmarket Handicap second behind The Quarterback he can win this with one hoof in the air. Trainer Darren Weir said he had intended to give him a freshen up, but he was simply doing too well and needed to race. That’s good enough for me.

THE RISK: Overdosing on Easter Egg chocolate. They are doing a hunt for the kids at Caulfield on Saturday, so go easy on the sweet stuff. As far as runners go, Petits Filous is the only short-priced favourite, but she should win.

THE TRAINER: DARREN WEIR

Looks to have the feature races at his mercy: Black Heart Bart in the Victoria Handicap and a two-pronged attack — Puccini and Manndawi — in the Easter Cup.

THE JOCKEY: NICK HALL

Rode a treble last Saturday, and can once again stamp his class with the likes of Ollie riding in Sydney. Has good chances in Najmaat, Tears of Joy and Red Bomber.

MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun)

CAULFIELD

THE BANKER: PETITS FILOU (Race 4, No. 1)

Star filly who has only tasted defeat once in five starts. Been trialling brilliantly and should add another win.

IN THE FRAME: MISS PROMISCUITY (Race 5, No. 2)

Resumed with excellent run for fourth at Flemington behind Malaguerra. Back to own sex and loves Caulfield.

THE RISK: LIDARI (Race 8, No. 3)

Had a big weight in Adelaide last start but was still disappointing. Carries only half a kilo less than Awesome Rock who was first past the post in the Australian Cup.

THE TRAINER: LEON and TROY CORSTENS.

The father and son team have only two runners but they are in the feature races. The super consistent Tried And Tired in the Victoria Handicap and Awesome Rock who lost the Australian Cup on protest in the Easter Cup.

JOCKEY: DYLAN DUNN

Promising apprentice who has been riding well in recent weeks. He has seven rides and several good winning chances including Adirondack (Race 2, No.1), Miss Promiscuity (Race 5, No.2), Himalaya Dream (Race 6, No.5), Leebaz (Race 8, No.2) and Hardern (Race 9, No.1).

BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser)

OAKBANK

THE BANKER: CELTIC PRINCE (Race 2, No. 1)

Dyed-in-the-wool stayer who should thrive over the testing 3600m of this race. Expect him to be too tough when the chips are down.

IN THE FRAME: NISHIAZABU (Race 7, No. 3)

Looked brilliant winning a steeple race at Oakbank a couple of weeks ago and should be cherry ripe for this. Significant step up in grade here but looks to be a jumper on the rise.

THE RISK: HUSSON EAGLE (Race 6, No. 2)

No doubting his quality but the Oakbank circuit has seen many a hotshot undone. Barrier one can be tricky as it’s a tough track to make ground on the inside if he gets crossed early.

THE TRAINER: DAVID JOLLY

He’s got a very good record at this track and specifically sets some of his horses to compete over the two-day Easter Carnival. He looks to have a great chance with Lady Andress in the fifth, while emerging sprinters Tarco and Alabama Missile should both be prominent in the feature Oakbank Stakes.

THE JOCKEY: DYLAN CABOUCHE

The young apprentice has picked up some handy rides on Saturday. He rides favourite Celtic Prince in the 3600m staying race early in the day and also looks to have winning claims on Go Dreaming in the Onkaparinga Cup and El Prado Gold for master Ryan Balfour in the following race.

Trainer David Jolly has a good record at the Oakbank carnival.

NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail)

DOOMBEN

THE BANKER: KRAFTWERK (Race 2, No. 4)

Looks set to be gifted a gentle lead and having had the experience of a run in Open company now, he should be terribly hard to gun down. Tempo should create an issue for his main rivals Sir Moments and Liberation.

IN THE FRAME: DESERT GENERAL (Race 4, No. 6)

Was a flop on paper at the Gold Coast, but can find excuses, not the least being there were many horses that raced below expectations that day. The first-up run was a cracker and makes him the one to beat here, especially from a more forgiving draw this time. Can bounce back.

THE RISK: ALPEN ROSE (Race 7, No. 7)

Is rock-hard in the market, but faces a much stiffer test up to Saturday grade here. Had the wet conditions in her favour last time and she probably needs a downpour to be a major player. Even with that. there’s others here that look classier.

THE TRAINER: CHRIS MUNCE

Munce was on top of the world after stable favourite Wicked Intent returned a winner last week and punters have cottoned onto his two-year-old Nicconi Leggera this week. Munce has tried to hose down expectations for the filly, which came about after she won a trial at Deagon by a space in fast time. Betting activity will be interesting.

THE JOCKEY: LUKE DITTMAN

Dittman continues to boast an impressive strike rate in Brisbane, second only to Damian Browne. Has been given the task to get I’m Belucci’s confidence back in the first, then has key rides on Happy Event (R3), Ruling Force (R6) and Lush Belle (R7).
