PREVIEW: LOVELETTER READY TO DELIVER
NEW HOME: O’SHEA SECURES FRESH START AT RANDWICK
WARWICK FARM
Track: Good 3. Rail: 5m out 1000m to winning post; 3m remainder.
EXPERT TIPS: WARWICK FARM
BETTING MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
RACE 1 (12.45pm): ALL TOO HARD @ VINERY PLATE (1200m)
This is a very open race. The well-bred Godolphin filly 11. Manicure was $7 first call and that seems generous given what she did in her trials and the strong form that comes out her last one via Newcastle winner Bull Market. 8. I Am Excited opened $3.80 fav on the score of his outstanding debut in the Woodlands, this is ‘easier’ and is at home. 9. Iowa has trialled well, so too 5. Aisance and a big watch on 1. Dunatun, who will be ridden by Blake Shinn.
BETTING STRATEGY: MANICURE each-way; Box trifecta 1, 5, 8, 9, 11
RACE 2 (1.20pm): TAB.COM.AU PLATE (1200m)
2. Launch Code opened at $2.30 and on face value should be $1.30. This James Cummings-trained Gooree 3YO was very coltish at his first campaign and it showed. A big decision to geld such a royally bred colt should pay immediate dividends. 3. Read All About It won a trial here, beating subsequent winner Cliveden. Scratched from Nowra on Sunday for this. 6. Tivoli Street will be better this time in.
BETTING STRATEGY: LAUNCH CODE to win.
RACE 3 (1.55pm): HYLAND RACE COLOURS PLATE (1200m)
6. Sharpness is a powerfully built filly from Team Hawkes that was tipped out after her rock-solid second to the handy So Spirited at Beaumont. Primed for a bold bid with a lovely trial here on May 15. The Ron Quinton-trained 2. Gracious Grey was the designated eye-catcher in her Randwick trial. Bred to excel and will be hard to hold out. Hard to see her missing a place. 4. Palomino went up favourite despite having been pretty costly.
BETTING STRATEGY: SHARPNESS to win; Quinella 2, 6.
RACE 4 (2.35pm): TAB REWARDS HCP (2200m)
Very tough race open to a variety of outcomes. Going with the First Seal combination of John Thompson and Blake Shinn who team up here via the Savabeel gelding 6. Superbee, who has been so consistent this campaign without winning. There can’t be a fitter horse in this race. 1. Lautaro was big odds when he won at Scone, he got a great ride and goes up a lot in weight for this — that’s the worry. 2. Segenhoe is always a chance in these 2200m handicaps.
BETTING STRATEGY: SUPERBEE to place.
RACE 5 (3.10pm): SCHWEPPES HCP (1600m)
4. Carzoff is an interesting runner. The Chris Waller import was kept very safe when markets opened on Monday at $6. Where he gets to by post time will tell the story better than I can. First-up over the mile (tick), Hugh Bowman (tick), two trials (tick, tick). Watch that market! Waller can trifecta this — 7. Pianissimo has been racing without much luck since his win here, while 8. Our Beatnik is wearing thin but still a winning hope.
BETTING STRATEGY: CARZOFF to win; Box quinella 4, 7, 8
RACE 6 (3.45pm): TAB HCP (1100m)
10. I Can Rock opened at $11, which is fantastic odds about a horse who will be first-up over 1100m at home. Gary Portelli has found the perfect race on paper, all he needs now to convert is a fast tempo so this horse can fly home down the outside to victory. Trialled very well before this. 5. Eastern Legend is a big watch. All three runs have contained merit but one wonders if he is well served by his inside alley? 3. Blowing Kisses has failed twice after the big win but has had excuses.
BETTING STRATEGY: I CAN ROCK each-way
RACE 7 (4.20pm): #THERACES HCP (1300m)
3. Magicaz has traditionally saved her best for her home track. The Magic Albert replica had no luck whatsoever here last start when seventh of 13, 2.4 lengths from the winner. Drawn four here, so will race closer and can make a dash at the 200m. 5. Nonpareil has been back to the trials and went super after the last run. 12. Air Apparent is the best roughie. This mare is one from 26 but has run in some major Group races, including a Blue Diamond.
BETTING STRATEGY: MAGICAZ and AIR APPARENT each way
