OUR experts give you an early shot at finding that elusive midweek winner.

Wednesday meetings: WARWICK FARM (7 races, starts 1.55pm), SANDOWN (Hillside, 8 races, starts 1.02pm), IPSWICH (7 races, starts 2.02pm), GAWLER (8 races, starts 1.10pm), GERALDTON (7 races, starts 4.36pm). All times AEDT.

WARWICK FARM

NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph)

NEVER BACK DOWN

Race 7, No. 19

Hasn’t been far away of late and this looks a perfect race for him. Scratchings have opened the door for him to get a start and let’s hope Tim Clark does the rest.

STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph)

SPATSIZI

Race 7, No. 9

Chris Waller has this colt firing, having won twice since resuming. Last time out, he beat Torgersen narrowly and that galloper has since franked the form by winning at Randwick on Saturday. Keeps delivering each time the bar is raised and can continue to do so here.

SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman)

ULTIMATE SHOCK

Race 4, No. 8

Is by Falkirk and a nice looking horse to boot. His dam is named Star and what a pedigree she has being by Danehill out of Desirable no less. This horse is a five-year-old and has only had one run so he’s obviously had issues. That one run was in New Zealand on February 19 and he won the 1200m maiden at Wairoa from the front. I watched the Anthony Cummings-trained gelding trial the other day at Randwick and he won the 730m heat easily. The margin was a length but the time was 41.70s.

SANDOWN (Hillside)

ROD NICHOLSON (Herald Sun)

ESTEEMED ELEGANCE

Race 5, No. 7

Ran home strongly over 1300m to win at Bendigo. Extra 100m looks ideal and is quality mare in form.

DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun)

YULONG BABY

Race 3, No. 9

Damien Oliver sticks with the Mick Price mare after an impressive return first-up. Has won second-up before and the stable ran Yulong Baby in last year’s Queensland Oaks, won by Winx, so do have a high opinion of the now four-year-old.

JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph)

KRYPTONIAN

Race 4, No. 9

Floundered in heavy conditions at Flemington on Oaks Day. Previous two starts this prep have been rib ticklers. Looks the best bet in the country anywhere, all day.
