HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS
FLEMINGTON
THE EARLY OIL: FLEMINGTON
MATT STEWART (Herald Sun). Form: 300x2
JUDGES
Race 5, No. 5
Goes fast and reckon straight will suit. Each-way.
TAB Fixed Odds: $9
DANNY RUSSELL (Herald Sun). Form: 28768
WHISTLE BABY
Race 2, No. 1
Home track, right distance, right stable, third-up and ready to fire. Finished off strongly last start.
TAB Fixed Odds: $10
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 5x331
FERRO NERO
Race 4, No. 8
Produced the fastest last 400m for the day when winning over 2100m at Sandown. Carries a feather-weight and might be a classy stayer in the making. $6 looks appealing.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (Superracing). Form: 24611
GOLD SYMPHONY
Race 6, No. 1
Three-year-old colt resuming after going amiss before last year’s Group 1 Golden Rose. Has won three of his four starts, including two Group 3s last spring.
TAB Fixed Odds: $4.50
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 41412
WARRIOR KING
Race 8, No. 11
Emerging stayer who won emphatically first-up at Sandown before putting in a total stinker last start at Caulfield. If you can forgive that run double figures looks tremendous price.
TAB Fixed Odds: $10

RANDWICK
STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph). Form: 10003
KANJI
Race 9, No. 9
I am expecting Joe Pride to have a big day. This galloper came back from a spell with a promising fourth placing, then scored an impressive win here on January 1. Should be at peak fitness now and at almost double figure odds on offer, looks an each-way special.
TAB Fixed Odds: $8
JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: 27364
VAN HALEN
Race 5, No. 3
Is slightly one paced but looks ideally suited with the 3 kilogram claim for Koby Jennings, who has partnered this gelding previously. From the good draw, he should be able to take-up a position somewhere near the speed and it might be a case of third time lucky for a breakthrough Highway Handicap victory.
TAB Fixed Odds: $14
SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: 86824
SENTA DESERT
Race 8, No. 7
Looks to be a in happy place at the moment but I concede it is very hard for a horse to win coming off such a long break — he hasn’t raced since October 2014. He is a 2000m horse for sure and certain but he has sprinted sufficiently well in the past and, as I say, his trials (three of them) have been good — don’t be fooled by the fact that two of them are lasts! Each-way at big odds.
TAB Fixed Odds: $35
DARREN PRENDERGAST (Superracing). Form: 707x2
FRANK WHO
Race 9, No. 5
Should be ready to peak after two runs back from a break. Each-way.
TAB Fixed Odds: $9.50

SUNSHINE COAST
BEN DORRIES (The Courier-Mail). Form: First starter
PIENKNA
Race 2, No. 6
Tony Gollan’s smart mare has drawn a nice gate and is sure to be peaking third-up. Far from the toughest race she has contested.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6
BRAD DAVIDSON (Gold Coast Bulletin). Form: 16886
MANA MANU (Race 2, No. 4) & URBAN KNIGHT (Race 5, No. 13)
Plenty of value around this weekend and Mana Manu and Urban Knight look the main two to focus around. The former was running in better races than this last preparation and looks terrific value, while Urban Knight had no luck when wide last start and should be more a $10 chance in this field. Back them both each-way.
TAB Fixed Odds: $17 & $26
BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser). Form: 21x17
IT AND A BIT
Race 7, No. 1
Smart gelding who has been racing consistently in stronger grade. He’s got plenty of weight but the 2kg claim for talented apprentice Josh Cartwright helps and he’s drawn to get a good trip from barrier five. Good each-way shot in an even race.
TAB Fixed Odds: $10
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: 21826
SPIEGEL GROVE
Race 3, No. 6
Progressive three-year-old with Darren Magro who followed an eye-catching debut with a solid win on his home track at Gawler last time. Stepping up again in class here but looks a horse with a future and should run well from the good barrier.
TAB Fixed Odds: $8
