Blitzburg ready to show best again after unsuccessful Queensland trip

Trainer Gerald Ryan is confident youngster Blitzburg can bounce back at Rosehill on Saturday after missing out on the Magic Millions.

Trainer Gerald Ryan reckons emerging youngster Blitzburg has plenty of key factors in his favour to bounce back in Saturday’s Group 3 $250,000 Canonbury Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Blitzburg has the perfect draw in barrier two for the Golden Slipper lead-up and returns to home turf after missing out on the chance to contest the $3m Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

The son of Snitzel ended up as one of the emergencies for the Gold Coast feature after finishing third in his final lead-up run at Eagle Farm.

Blitzburg had to be scratched from the rescheduled 2YO Classic anyway after Ryan was forced to treat him due to “half a temperature and coughing.”

Ryan is confident Blitzburg has put the issue behind him as he looks to put himself in the Slipper frame in his own backyard.

“I think the horse is going really well,” Ryan said.

“I was a little bit disappointed in his last run at Eagle Farm but it might have been all too close together going up on the Wednesday, a hot day, and backing up on the Saturday.

“He’s freshened up after that race and had eight or nine days out on the farm on the water walker and has bounced back good and he’s work on Tuesday was as good as he’s done.”

Blitzburg, purchased for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale last year, won his maiden start at Newcastle and was fifth in the Magic Millions Wyong 2YO Classic before heading north.

He is the most experienced galloper in the Canonbury Stakes field with three runs under his belt with bookies rating him a $3.70 second elect for the race.

“He’s only a little fella and is probably in the rung below (the top ones) but he is fit and well,” Ryan said.

“He is on his home track, drawn a barrier and can run well.”

Ryan and co-trainer Sterling Alexiou will be hunting a two-year-old feature double with In Limbo set to contest the Group 3 $250,000 Widden Stakes (1100m).

In Limbo was also in Queensland chasing riches and had excuses when third in the Magic Millions Debut at the Gold Coast.

“When she jumped her hind legs slipped behind because we expected her to be up behind the leaders,” Ryan said.

“Kerrin (McEvoy) said she slipped and missed it two lengths. She will be a lot closer with a clean getaway than she was at the Gold Coast.”

Ryan and Alexiou paid $150,000 for in Limbo at the same sale as Blitzburg and could pay off that price tag in an instant on Saturday.

“She is a lovely filly to look at,” Ryan said.

“She can be a little bit hot but to look at she is a lovely, big, strong filly with plenty of scope to her.

“I thinks he is a nice filly that has always shown a bit of ability.”

Tyler Schiller jumps on In Limbo for her second-up assignment where she is a $7.50 chance.

Silentsar ($6.50) is another horse Ryan believes is capable of bouncing back.

The son of Russian Revolution didn’t beat a runner home in his last start at Wyong and gets the chance to atone in the Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1350m).

“There wasn’t an issue and if you go through his form, his best runs are when he draws out wide,”

“He isn’t brilliant quick out. He goes 15 strides and then gets running.

“By the time he got going at Wyong they closed up in front of him on the fence and he was pretty tied up on the fence and didn’t appreciate it.”

Stablemate High Blue Sea ($11) will only start in the TAB Benchmark 88 Handicap (1500m) if the track conditions are in his favour.

“High Blue Sea won’t run if it gets worse than a Soft 5,” Ryan said.

“His best form is on firmer tracks and his run the other day his wheels were spinning.”
