INSIDE MAIL - MURWILLUMBAH
RACE 1
Matthew Dunn has four in this race, two after scratchings, including the presumed short-priced favourite Pierre Cardinnigan who hasn’t put a foot wrong in his three starts. That is to say, even his losses were wholly excellent runs. Then of course there is the win here on December 13 over this trip. Progressive type. Ellro is another very reliable Murwillumbah local. Could argue the 1550m is a query but her astute trainer says ‘no, she is a miler’.
Bet: Pierre Cardinnigan to win, exacta 1 to beat 7
RACE 2
Master Copy is an Irish-bred galloper who lodged two provincial wins and one Canterbury win for his original trainer John O’Shea. The son of Belardo is with Matthew Dunn these days and finds himself in the right style of race, distance-wise, and at his new home. Trialled well on December 5 over the border. Collay’s Spirit has raced 67 times for seven wins and 18 placings, 11 of them seconds. He has only had four runs for Darren Graham; three of them good, the last one was a ripper.
Bet: Master Copy to win, quinella 3, 6
RACE 3
Miss Dynamo has raced three times for (in order), a fourth at the Sunshine Coast, a nose second at Eagle Farm and a fast finishing third at Grafton at their carnival. She has trialled twice for her return and went super at the last one. Easy to like. Harrier has finished runner-up at her last two, the most recent one was behind Pierre Cardinnigan, so we’ll know the strength of that form by now. Wimoweh is a Chris Waller trained ‘improver’ looking for a big track and this trip.
Bet: Miss Dynamo to win, box trifecta 1, 2, 5, 11

RACE 4
Deuterium is a Headwater filly on debut from the Matthew Dunn stable. Naturally there is always some implied advantage for a horse to have their first start at home. They say it also helps to have a rail to follow and Deuterium has drawn one with the very experienced Ben Looker to see her home. Dernier Lien is the Dunn stablemate and also by Headwater as it happens. Her trials have been outstanding and barrier four is perfect. Odette’s Orchids is trained here too and has invaluable raced experience.
Bet: Deuterium to win, quinella 10,11, box trifecta 3, 10, 11, 12
RACE 5
Second Sun is a Proven Thoroughbreds gelding with Matthew Hoysted at Eagle Farm. The Arrowfield-bred son of The Autumn Sun has two wins, two seconds and two thirds from seven starts and the ‘bad run’ was a Heavy 8 so let’s give him that one. Hard to explain in words how impressive and emphatic he was winning at the Sunny Coast last start. Torovista is a David McColm-trained local who faded out at the Gold Coast last start but he was being attacked up front for most of the race.
Bet: Second Sun to win, exacta 1 to beat 2
RACE 6
Chris Waller was down to have a handful of runners here. His record at Murwillumbah leading into today is 16 runners, six winners and six placegetters; that’s 37.5 per cent winners to runners and 75 per cent when placings are added. The betting will tell a story with his Star Thoroughbreds filly Reveillon. Well bred, trialled well. The market will also be of assistance when it comes to Vincent. Everything to like about his trials; just that he hasn’t raced since his debut (ran last of eight) on December 29 in 2023.
Bet: Reveillon to win, Daily Double 1st leg (11), 2nd Leg (8)

RACE 7
Red Red Wine was having his first start for his new handler Matthew Dunn in a 1200m Benchmark 78 over 1200m here on December 13. He was $1.95 into $1.75 and although beaten, he was inches off the winner. Dunn knows best of course but the ‘blinkers again’ looks the winning call. Seiryu has so far only managed two wins from 21 starts but he has placed seven times, One of them was a third over this track and trip (his only previous visit) which bodes well for this.
Bet: Red Red Wine to win
RACE 8
Flame Tree Star is a Matthew Dunn trained, cleverly-named filly by Your Song (as in Cold Chisel’s song about Grafton). That’s where this filly won her maiden back in April. Her record as it stands is four starts for a win and three placings. She was $9 into $6 when she got awfully close to beating her stablemate Neil at home 14 days ago. Their Finest Hour didn’t win by as far as some $1.75 shots do when first-up at Coffs Harbour but make no mistake, there was a lot of authority in his win.
Bet: Flame Tree Star to win, exacta 8 to beat 7
