GOULBURN INSIDE MAIL
Synergize has raced in provincial grade at all bar one of her five starts and performed credibly each time. Take last start for example, she was beaten three-quarters of a length at Kembla by The Pacific who goes well enough himself. Safrano is well served here on the big track but more so given she can get out to 1200m. Ryan/Alexiou filly Aweigh has drawn well while the Gary Portelli/Elite Thoroughbred colt Zoodoo has trialled well.
Bet: Synergize to win (best bet) Sarfrano to place
Nambi Ghima is unplaced in all four starts so far but she has improved in, and after, each run. The Jason Coyle-bred, owned and trained filly couldn’t be better placed at 1500m back at Goulburn, that’s the same track/trip where she ran so well on December 20. Newhaven Park’s well-bred Movie has had some pretty wicked draws in her short career but has run well each time, bar one perhaps. Could come in a few with the scratchings.
Bet: Nambi Ghima to win, quinella 10,14, Daily Double 1st Leg (14), 2nd Leg (13)
Take The Wrap is an above-average three-year-old who won three of his first four starts, his other run was sixth to Snow In May no less in that big 2YO race at Wagga on Town Plate day in May. His fifth run was an honourable fifth of 13 in a TAB Highway on Big Dance day. She Within has done nothing wrong in her four starts. She was third in a very strong maiden at Canterbury on Jan 1 then went to Moruya and won by six, 16 days later. Bode Akuna can place.
Bet: Take The Rap to win, quinella 3,8, box trifecta 2,3,8,9
Winnie Fortune was nothing short of outstanding in defeat at her first two runs when third each time in a couple of Sapphire Coast 1000m maidens, the second one was won by Inglis Nursery runner-up, Beer Baron. Winnie Fortune got her reward on January 12 at Nowra when she nailed the handy Cougars right on the line. Xcessive Force led throughout to comfortably defeat the aforementioned She Within here on debut and we know how that form has stood up since. Can’t Touch This and Jackpot are likewise both last start winners.
Bet: Winnie Fortune to win, box trifecta 9,10,12,13
ARMIDALE INSIDE MAIL
Cool Machine has done more good than bad in her 11 starts and most encouraging of all is that the Brett Dodson-trained mare’s best three runs are her last three, that is a nose second, a nose win and a half-length second. Just has to stay the trip. So does Storm Park but you would imagine he would being a son of Ocean Park but he is from a mostly sprinting family on his dam side who knows. Descending Miss is in great form but has a dud draw.
Bet: Cool Machine to win, quinella 6,7
Typhoon Neta has only managed to win twice on her 30 starts but she has placed seven times. Two of her last three runs would make her hard to beat if she brought them to Armidale here. Certainly worthy of respect and consideration. Gerry Harvey’s mare Chidiac is unbeaten in her two starts, both pretty easy wins, both at Quirindi from wide draws. Draws one here and gets 4kg off for Cav’s apprentice, Nick Palmer.
Bet: Tycphhon Neta each-way
Skates On has some compelling stats to take this one out. The Colt Prosser-trained son of Denman has won just two of 19 BUT both of those wins are at Armidale (from four visits) and one of them was over this same trip. Lots to like about the way she and her regular rider Ben Looker warmed up late first-up in a good race at Taree. Water Las has been well placed throughout and while consistent the whole way through, he hasn’t been able to convert most time.
Bet: Skates On to win
Wealthy Investor lines up in an Armidale Class 2. Compare that to some of the races he contested as a 2YO (in chronological order): third at Rosehill to Lady Laguna, third in the Wyong Magic Millions, seventh in the Pago Pago, ninth in the Sires, fifth (of six) in the Champagne. As for more recent times, the Damien Lane trained gelding has been passable in his last two at the provincials. Hibiki Harmony has a very tidy CV as it is but her prospects soared when she drew barrier two and claimed.
Bet: Wealthy Investor each-way, quinella 2,8
