The top individual performance on Saturday was produced by prolific Bull Sharks midfielder Mel Wilks who scored two tries and nailed six conversions in Bond University’s 38 point routing of Sunnybank.

Wilks was sensational carving a gorge through the defence of the minor premiers.

On Sunday, Wests utility forward Dillyn Blackburn put in an eye-catching audition to be brought into the Queensland Reds Super W squad later this year.

Blackburn, who played flanker, put a down payment on making that Reds squad with an all-or-nothing performance in a losing side and deserves a call-up on the back of this game alone.

She was impressive throughout the entire home-and-away season.

Blackburn, 21, has played two seasons at The Kennel since coming down from Gympie and proved a strong runner and lineout winner in 2024.

It said everything about her effort when she still made two tackles in the final 90 seconds of Sunday’s skirmish at Sunnybank.

She went non-stop and is featured below in the StoreLocal Premier Women semi-finals Team of the Week.

Other selection highlights in this team included:

+ Diminutive Easts 18-year-old Abbi Spooner following her aplomb at fullback;

+ Bond prop Karpani who was dominant in the scrum against a vaunted Sunnybank pack. She scored two excellent tries, the first she grubbered ahead and regathered down low when the ball hit the goalpost pad. No prop does that. She scattered two defenders on a veering run to the line for her second;

+ Gemma Lawrence who is named at outside centre. The pacy Lawrence found gaps non existent in the defence;

+ Sunnybank captain Sera Koroi who was steady and dangerous with the ball;

+ Evergreen Wests prop Liz Patu being named at loosehead. She still has no equal when it comes to charging ahead, staying on her feet and making post contact metres.

COLTS 1 SEMI FINALS TEAM OF THE WEEK

+ In a losing side, Easts tighthead prop Nick Bloomfield forced six scrum penalties and is recognised for his performance by being named at No.3;

+ Wests utility back Ryan Shaw is named at No.14 but was masterful at flyhalf for the Bulldogs. This season, he has played plenty of wing and done well for a natural flyhalf or fullback;

+ Two No.8’s shone brightly at the weekend. Souths mountain man Kaleb Akaroa was immense for Souths while big Jackon Moloney was fearless for Easts;

+ Lock Fergus Gillan had one of his best games all season to keep Bond University’s season alive.
