Quarterfinal spots up for grabs on day two of the Basketball Qld CBSQ tournament (CBSQ 2022 )

Teams have battled for quarter final spots on the second day of the Basketball Queensland CBSQ tournament. Watch replays of all the games.

Competition is set to heat up on the Gold Coast as teams compete for quarterfinal spots on day two of the Basketball Queensland CBSQ tournament.

The first day of the tournament saw the title contenders from both the boys and girls draws breeze through their opening games but can we see an upset or two with more on the line today at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre?

Highlighting day two’s livestream schedule is the Boys Champ Division clash between Villanova College and Brisbane Boys’ College with Villanova needing a win to keep their hopes of making the crossovers alive after a close loss to TSS yesterday.

GIRLS DIV 2: Dakabin SHS def Canterbury College 40-32

Dakabin State High School got off to the perfect start on the second day of the Basketball Queensland CBSQ tournament after a hardfought eight-point win over Canterbury College to start today’s streaming schedule.

Both teams never gave up throughout the contest but 14 points from Jacey Sturgeon pushed her Dakabin team to the victory.

It was a battle between Sturgeon and Canterbury’s Indigo Thompson, who recorded 13 points, but Dakabin had a few more players contribute on the scoreboard to walk away with the result.

BOYS DIV 2: St Patrick’s Mackay def Runcorn SHS 59-45

Three players reached double figures for St Patrick’s Mackay as they tipped-off their second day on court with a convincing 14-point victory over Brisbane’s Runcorn State High School at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre.

Jackson Harris (19 points), Aidan Collins (17 points) and Patrick Hoare (16 points) were dominant for the central Queensland team, who bounced back from two losses on the first day of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Runcorn are still winless but Yamato Kawai did all he could for his team, scoring 13 points to lead them in scoring.

Both times had their last games for the day at 2pm.

BOYS CHAMP DIV: Villanova College def BBC 78-54

Villanova College set up a showdown with Hillcrest Christian College tonight to see who takes the last quarterfinals spot from Pool B after a convincing 24-point victory over GPS school, Brisbane Boys’ College this morning.

Both teams have lost just one game, both to championship favourites TSS, and will now face-off at 8pm tonight to decide who moves on in the tournament.

BBC put up a fight against the Harrison Rouhliadeff and Will Mahoney-led Villanova side in the first half, but Jordan Mullan’s team kept the pressure on and were able to run away with a dominant win in the end.

Joseph Wilson and Mason Honeyman both led the scoring for Villanova at 15 points while Rouhliadeff (13 points) and Mahoney (10 points) were also both impressive.

Thomas Hinson had 17 points for BBC.

GIRLS CHAMP DIV: Marsden SHS def Kings Christian College 69-59

A 20-point haul from talented guard Maya Entrop helped her Marsden State High School bounce back from a winless day one to record a big win over Kings Christian College on day two.

Marsden responded well to their performances on the first day, beating their Gold Coast opponents who needed a victory to keep their hopes of finishing in the Pool B’s top two alive.

But Entrop along with Hiku Eden (14 points) and Malaya Conboy (11 points) were too good as the Logan school finished with a double-digit win.

Janique O’Riley led the scoring for Kings with 16 points.
