The COVID-19 restrictions around school and community sport have been lifted early, but who can make it back in time for this weekend?
AIC will lead the charge back in the sporting world by resuming fixtures on Saturday - a week earlier than planned. And so will TAS (The Associated Schools).
Member school board representatives from St Patrick’s College, Padua College, Marist College Ashgrove, St Edmunds, St Peters Lutheran College, Iona College, St Laurence’s College and Villanova College met late today to wave the all clear for sport to resume.
This will include the high profile AIC First XIII rugby league competition which will be hosted by Marist College Ashgrove on Saturday.
“The member colleges have met this afternoon to work towards a return to AIC sport this weekend where possible,’’ a prepared statement revealed.
“Member Colleges will convey to their respective communities the specific details regarding games and procedures for this weekend’s matches.
“As always, the safety and welfare of our students, families, staff, volunteers, and the broader community will have utmost priority in any planning.’’
This means restrictions on the number of people attending AIC term 3 sports will be outlined to parents tomorrow.
But while AIC will restart, GPS is less likely to proceed.

SIX THINGS TO LOOK FORWARD TO WHEN GPS FIRST RUGBY RETURNS
They may play on Saturday, but more likely was the association remaining focused on resuming sport, as per previous Queensland Health guidelines, on August 28.
The sticking point is simple - student safety.
While some rugby teams, for example, have been doing contact work, others had not based on the state government’s original road map stating a return on August 28.
But there is still a chance and a decision will be made today.
Likewise, the QGSSSA board was still considering its position.
While on paper the state government’s decision to bring forward the lifting of the lockdown may seem simple, many organisations had already changed competition and finals scheduled based on the original August 28 decision by government.
CaSSSA, which oversees private school catholic sport, does not have Saturday fixtures but would resume term 3 sports on Wednesday.
