OLYMPIC swimming coach David Lush has joined Moreton Bay College as director of swimming.
Lush, who was on the 2016 Rio Olympic coaching staff, moves into the Queensland Girls’ Secondary Schools Sports Association system after coaching Brisbane Grammar for the past 12 years.
World swimming championship silver medallist Minna Atherton and a host of Tokyo Olympic Games contenders, including Rio Olympic medallist Maddie Groves, will follow him to MBC.

Moreton Bay College head of college Janet Stewart and Andrew Holmes, head of college Moreton Bay Boys’ College, welcomed the appointment.
“David brings with him unparalleled coaching experience and swimming success and we look
forward to a strong future for the colleges’ swimming program and Moreton Bay Swimming
Club under David’s leadership,” Holmes said.
Stewart added: “As part of our ongoing commitment to provide high quality co-curricular experiences for our boys and girls, we are delighted to welcome David to our colleges and excited by the opportunities that lie ahead for our swimmers.”
They said he would build on the strong “swimming culture at the colleges’’.
The Brisbane Grammar sporting community also acknowledged Lush’s 12 year association after he established the Brisbane Grammar School Swimming Club in 2010.
By 2014 the club was one of Australia’s top ranked, and in the last six years Brisbane Grammar School either won or finished second at the GPS swimming championship.
The 2017 victory ended a 40-year GPS drought for BGS.
BGS noted Lush’s “innovations in his role’’, including setting up the Swimming Health Professional Network.
“Winning the 2017 GPS Swimming Championships is one of the highlights of my coaching career,” Lush said.
“I am so proud to have been able to contribute to the BGS community. It was always my
intention to create an environment, where every BGS boy felt valued, had a sense of purpose and belonging at the pool.’’
Bobby Jovanovich is the acting Brisbane Grammar head coach.
