It was a good day overall for Nudgee, with the college winning 11 out of 21 matches - the first time since 2016 Nudgee has secured more wins across the year groups than the powerful BBC.
St Joseph’s Gregory Terrace also had a win, this time 3-nil over Brisbane State High School.
Terrace co-ordinator Cameron Young said Shaun Anderson was outstanding for the side, with 10 aces.
“He was consistent, with runs of three and four at a time,’’ Young said.
“Our serving overall was excellent and that was one part of our game which helped us throughout.’’
Young said it was a clinical match and praised his team’s aggression.’’
Young said BSHS were also a spirited bunch who were “constantly celebrating their points.’’
He said the BSHS enthusiasm and the manner in which they “got around each other’’ rubbed off on his side.
Brisbane Grammar School got on the court for the first time this season to beat Ipswich Grammar School.
Coach Rhys Cox said BGS won 16 of 18 GPS fixtures across the year levels, with the First VI winning 3-nil in a “clinical performance’’.
Cox said it was a relief for his squad to get back on the court after a round 1 bye.
“It was a good opportunity to get our first game under our belt and a good chance to five everyone a run,’’ he said.
“The boys have been training since September so it was good to finally play in a real match.
“Being our first game, everyone got a good run and it was genuine team performance.’’
