MOTORISTS are urged to plan their travel wisely this weekend with the Gold Coast Airport Marathon forcing widespread road closures across the city.

MOTORISTS are urged to plan their travel wisely this weekend with the Gold Coast Airport Marathon forcing widespread road closures across the city.

The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday with more than 29,000 competitors hitting Coast roads across the weekend.

Diversions will be in place where road closures are required but motorists are warned to expect delays and keep an eye out for runners.

MARATHON POISED FOR RECORD RESULT

Major Events Group Inspector Barry Day said police and safety marshalls would be in place to ensure all diversions operated smoothly.

“Approximately 100 officers will be policing the two day event accompanied by 200 marshalls to ensure public safety to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses as much as possible during the event,” he said.

From 7am to 7.30am:

- Sundale Bridge, Southport

From 4am to 2pm:

- Gold Coast Highway, Southport from Ada Bell Way including Sundale Bridge southbound to intersection of Waterways Drive, Main Beach (Northbound lanes will be two way)

- The Esplanade Paradise Point from Donald Avenue to Falkinder Avenue Paradise Point

- Bayview Street from Falkinder Ave Paradise Point to Land's End Bridge, Anglers Paradise

- Lae Drive from Bayview Street to Morala Avenue, Runaway Bay

- Marine Parade from Land's End Bridge, Biggera Waters to Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters

- Gold Coast Hwy from Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters to Broad Street, Labrador

- Frank Street from Broad Street, Labrador to Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador

- Gold Coast Highway from Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador to Ada Bell Way, Southport

- Waterways Drive from Gold Coast Hwy to Seaworld Drive, Main Beach
