Huge crowds tun out for opening Saturday of Gold Coast Marathon
RECORDS have tumbled in the opening races of the Gold Coast Marathon weekend as thousands of keen runners hit the pavement for the 10km and 5.7km events.

ANOTHER RECORD FOR IMOGEN STEWART
SYDNEY’S Imogen Stewart has cleaned up the competition and claimed a course record on her way to becoming the overall winner in the 4km dash. The 12-year-old took victory in a female course record time of 12:48. Stewart also currently holds the female course record time for the 2km dash, which was won by her younger brother this year. Thousands of runners dressed in bright and colourful outfits hit the pavement for the poplar race. Mitchell Thompson was the first to cross the line, finishing in a time of 17:16. Emily Casaclang took out the women’s category with a time of 20:37. The final races of the day, the 2km and 4km junior dash, will be underway soon. SCROLL DOWN TO SEE OUR ROLLING COVERAGE DECADE OLD RECORD BROKEN IN MEN’S 10KM A TEN year race record has been broken in the men’s 10km event of the Gold Coast Marathon. 24-year-old Jordan Gusman ran a record time of 28:42 to take victory in the opening event. Meanwhile Madeline Hills was the first female to cross the line, finishing in a time of 32:35 to take out the women’s division. Meanwhile the kids will race around the streets of Southport from 8.25am when the 2km junior dash gets underway followed by the 4km junior dash at 8.40am.
