Kostecki Brothers Racing have revealed their ambitious plan to get a full-time spot on the Supercars grid, potentially as early as 2020.

The Logan-based racing team had wildcards for this year’s Enduro Cup, run in conjunction with the Supercars series across the Bathurst 1000, Gold Coast 600 and Sandown 500.

Cousins Brodie and Jake Kostecki are the two drivers featuring for the team throughout the Enduro Cup while Super2 driver and the latter’s brother Kurt has previously had wildcards for the event.

Kurt Kostecki said the team were weighing up whether to apply for a racing entitlements contract (REC), something each car in the Supercars series needs.

The 21-year-old said their decision on whether to try and buy a contract as early as next year would hinge on the fact the broadcast rights deal currently in place for the sport ends at the conclusion of the 2020 season.

“It’s on the cards but we just have to wait for it all to play out,” Kostecki said.

“There is so much money involved and the cost of the REC varies.

“Five years ago they were worth like $1.8 million and now they are worth peanuts, probably between $200,000 and $300,000.

“It fluctuates all the time depending on the TV deal and the supply and demand of REC’s.

“There is so much uncertainty with where the category is going, no one knows what will happen with the next T.V deal.

“That’s why we are half sitting on the fence, we are just waiting to see how everything goes.”

The Kostecki’s crashed out at the Bathurst 1000 before finishing 18th and 16th respectively across the two Gold Coast 600 races last weekend.
