THE issues that plagued Will Davison at Bathurst have reared their head again at his home track on the Gold Coast.
It looked like things had finally clicked into gear when Davison qualified third on the grid for race two of the Gold Coast 600 on Sunday before he and his co-driving brother Alex Davison were left with a pair of seventh-place finishes for the weekend and struggling to pinpoint where a loss of race speed came from.
FREAK PROBLEM THAT BROUGHT STAR UNDONE
“We have had a tough weekend,” Davison said.
“It’s disappointing when you qualify third but we have been behind the eight-ball and had some issues from Bathurst carry into here.”
McLAUGHLIN TEAM CONSIDER BOLD CAR CALL
Davison, who sits in ninth in the Supercars Championship, thought he had found the issue when a tweak of the brakes had him flying in the Top Ten Shootout. But it soon unravelled.
“We didn’t have the race balance with speed so no strategy unfortunately is going to help the lack of speed,” Davison said.
“I was happy (Sunday) morning, we made some inroads with some issues we have been facing.
“Instantly my one lap pace was back. We got the braking balance back. I don’t think it was a brake issue in the race but had quite bad imbalance. The car is straight and we got points so we will be right.
“We will try and analyse our strengths and weaknesses as we always do. Normally if your car is good over one lap it will be good in the race but it was very disappointing. I was a bit surprised actually and we need to try and understand why.”
