Supercars fans will be treated to a high-tech drone show in Surfers Paradise and all 24 drivers on hand for a free ‘sunset signings’ session when the GC500 kicks off later this month.
Supercars bosses on Wednesday announced the event-first drone show for Thursday, October 24 to start the race weekend.
“From 5.30pm I’d encourage all fans to get down for a free signing session down to Cavill Ave, under the Surfers Paradise sign,” event manager Matt Ramsden said.
“We’ll have all 24 drivers, they’re going to arrive in style from the Bullrush Rally, so some very unique Lamborghinis, McLarens, Porsches, Ferraris will rock up.
“They’re going to take them from the track to the signing session in style, and that’s going to be followed by a drone show.
“We’re very keen to announce that today, at 6.30pm immediately following the signing session, there’ll be a drone show right behind us at the Surfers Paradise sign.
“Something very special and unique, which is entertainment for the fans,” he said.
PremiAir Racing driver James Golding said he was looking forward to race weekend.
“It’s pretty special, obviously being a Gold Coast team, the whole team is based around the Gold Coast and Brisbane area. So to have a race on our home streets is pretty special.
“It’s definitely a great environment, having the family and friends around to support is really cool... I always got tricks up the sleeve but we’ll hold on to them until Sunday,” he said.
Dick Johnson Racing driver Anton De Pasquale said the atmosphere of the Gold Coast 500 was like no other.
“Everyone’s indulging, we can see everyone having a good time, and we really look forward to the race.
“That’s what’s special about the event, the atmosphere for the party, so the vibes around it, we obviously have to be on strict behaviour until Sunday night, and hopefully have a good race and then enjoy,” he said.
Blanchard Racing Team drive and rookie Aaron Love said he was looking forward to driving the Gold Coast track.
“It’s my first time racing here in the supercar, it’s a bit of a concrete canyon of a place, but it’s mega fun with the big curbs and you’re surrounded by the beach and walls and crowds, it’s awesome.
“It’s one of those tracks where I think if you’ve done laps in it, in any car, it’s a bit of an advantage.
“Fortunately, I’ve been here a few times so just looking forward to getting out there and seeing what Supercars is all about around here,” he said.
