A former Maroons and Broncos legend will return to his hometown this week for a unique pre-match training course for Country Week.

Andrew ‘Macca’ McCullough’s roots are still in Dalby, his hometown, where he will return on Friday to compete and be put through his paces in a Ford driving course.

At Dalby Leagues Club, Macca, alongside Clydesdale players Nicholas Carrie and Kaden Buhse, will put their driving skills to the test.

Ahead of the round 19 QCup Country Week games this weekend, Ford will be putting the players through their paces on the road – a far cry from the pre-match training they are used to.

Macca retired from rugby league in 2022, ending his career at St George after more than a decade with the Broncos and four caps for Queensland.

Road safety is a passionate topic for the footy legend, after he and his family escaped serious injury in a high-speed road crash caused their car to roll several times in 2020.

McCullough and his wife Carlie’s ‘brush with death’ in November, 2020 in northern NSW was a reminder that the “crazy stuff can happen in the blink of an eye,” the pair wrote in 2020.

As presenting partner of Country Week, Ford said they are dedicated to ensuring drivers are equipped with the skills and knowledge to stay safe while navigating country roads, including emergency braking, steering and vision and driving on different surfaces.

The Western Clydesdales will face the Tweed Seagulls on Sunday, July 27 at Dalby football ground at 2.10pm.
