Sydney FC has signed a Spanish left back once on the books of Real Madrid.

Diego Caballo, who played for Real Madrid’s B and C teams, has joined the Sky Blues after a lengthy stint in Spain’s second division with clubs including Extremadura, Albacete and CE Sabadell.

“This will be my first time playing football outside of Spain and it’s a fresh challenge and new experience which has come at the perfect time in my life,” 28-year-old Caballo said.

“I understand Sydney FC is the most successful club in Australian football and I know there will be big pressure to win more trophies this season.”

Sydney coach Steve Corica said Caballo would give the Sky Blues “great strength in depth on our left hand side”.

“He’s a player who likes to get forward and gets crosses into the box so he will be a good attacking player for us.” Corica said.

“He is also quick and strong and with an attacking mindset he will be exciting for the fans.

“He has also kept himself in good physical condition since the end of the season in Spain so he will be able to hit the ground running and he’ll be a great addition.”
