Adam Le Fondre is desperate to make up for lost time in his bid to spearhead Sydney FC’s bid for an A-League finals berth.

The 36-year-old English striker has endured a frustrating season, with injuries restricting him to just 13 appearances.

However, having recovered from a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined since mid-February, he is ready to make an impact, starting on Saturday night when the sixth-placed Sky Blues – who have lost three of their past four matches – host Western United at Allianz Stadium.

“I’m ahead of schedule which is really pleasing to know that my body has responded well and I am looking forward to the rest of the season,” Le Fondre said.

“The injury came at a really bad time for me, as I was starting to feel like my old self again.

“It was quite bad for me physically but also mentally, so it’s great to be back.”

Le Fondre said it had been “heartbreaking” having to watch from the sidelines while his side struggled, particularly during the Sky Blues’ embarrassing 4-0 derby loss to Western Sydney.

“We were beginning to hit good form and then just having to watch in games like the derby really hurt,” he said.

“We were in a good run and the goals were flowing, so it’s important that we get back to that and get back to winning ways.”

The Sky Blues have the added incentive on Saturday of wanting to ensure Rhyan Grant’s 300th appearance for the club is a night to remember.

Sydney FC coach Steve Corica said Grant’s milestone was “really amazing”.

“For someone to reach 300 games at one club shows he has a great attitude,” Corica said.

“He is a great guy to have around the club, an amazing footballer and he keeps getting better and better.”
