SURFERS Paradise needed only three points to secure the 2020 Gold Coast Premier League title, but an 8-0 blitz against Coomera made the occasion even sweeter.
A loss in the final round meant Apollo was at risk of letting slip the league with Palm Beach lingering just one point when proceedings kicked off on Saturday night.

TRASH TALK HEATS UP AHEAD OF NPL BATTLE
But Surfers weren’t going to risk any heartbreak, piling on eight goals to complete a near-perfect season.
Apollo finished on 34 points, four clear of direct challenger Palm Beach, and won 10 games alongside four draws.
Undefeated coach Alex Morrison said the title came as a massive relief after starting their 2020 campaign last November, a few months after finishing runners-up to Burleigh in both the 2019 league and grand final.
“The boys were unbelievable,” Morrison said.
“To finish the season undefeated is a great accomplishment for them.
“To come here today, Coomera was a little bit underdone and they’ll be much stronger coming into finals, but to get the three points, we didn’t care what the result was, to get three points and win the league makes us so proud.”
A star-studded squad and exceptional off-field staff all formed the basis of Apollo’s stunning season, as did constant pressure from Palm Beach who could have stolen the title if not for a 2-0 loss to Robina in the final round.
“I want to take the chance to congratulate Brett on his season,” Morrison said.
“To be undefeated and still have it come down to the last game of the season to win the league, it shows what a great season Palm Beach have had and a great job they’ve done.
“We stay very humble for how we went.
“We had to be at it every week and they pushed us.”
Robina’s win guaranteed their first top four Premier League finish in 25 years.
Burleigh rounded out their season with a 3-0 win over Broadbeach United while Southport’s clash against Nerang was abandoned due to rain.
