Football heavyweights Celtic are into the Scottish Cup final but its fans have made headlines around the world after collectively taking a shot at King Charles’ coronation.

Chants of “You can shove your coronation up your a**e” rung out after Celtic claimed a 1-0 win over Rangers.

It comes after the Scottish public was invited to pledge allegiance to King Charles as part of his coronation on Saturday.

During the coronation, the Archbishop of Canterbury will call on “all persons of goodwill in The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of the other Realms and the Territories to make their homage, in heart and voice, to their undoubted King, defender of all.”

People will then be encouraged to pledge allegiance to King Charles.

However, Celtic fans may have just shown their hand with a resounding chant.

One video of the chant has already garnered over 3.2m views

The chant has been met with mixed reaction across the world.

Miss Universe Mauritius Ameeksha Dilchand posted: “The videos of people singing ‘You can shove your coronation up your a*se’ a few before His coronation, is something”.

Former Aussie football journo Ray Gatt tweeted: “Lol. This is fantastic!”

But outspoken broadcaster Piers Morgan lashed out at the chants and branded them as anti-monarchist.

“Well, utterly charming of course, as ever, from Celtic fans,” Morgan said.

“But that’s what they’ve always been like towards our monarchy, and I have a similar view of Celtic fans, so all’s fair in love and war.

“All those who desire can get involved, all those who don’t can keep their big gobs shut or change the channel, or go and watch Celtic.”

However, it’s far from the first time Celtic fans have shown they’re not keen on the monarchy.

Celtic was established in 1887 as a club for Irish immigrants and to raise money for struggling Irish families. Traditionally fans have harboured anti-monarchy sentiments which appear to continue to this day.

Just over a week after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Celtic fans were urged to be respectful for a minute of applause before a match against St Mirren at St Mirren Park.

But Celtic fans weren’t having any of it, booing loudly during the applause.

Celtic fans also held up a banner and chanted: “If you hate the Royal Family clap your hands”

It came despite Celtic’s Aussie coach Ange Postecoglou calling for fans to show respect.

Late last year, polling found that support for the Royal Family in Scotland was 10 per cent lower than the rest of UK.

Another survey by British market research and data analytics firm YouGov found young people between the ages of 16-49 believe Scotland should ditch the monarchy and elect a head of state.

Scotland were also forced into Brexit despite every single council choosing to remain in the 2016 referendum.

Scotland’s new first Minister Humza Yousaf has vowed to deliver independence for Scotland.

It comes nearly a decade since Scots decided to stay in the UK by a 55-45 margin.

Polling now suggests the vote would be nearly evenly split but that young people overwhelmingly favour leaving the UK.
