Football Gold Coast general manager Damien Bresic has emphatically denied the 2020 football season had been cancelled after a rogue club’s social media post claimed it had been formally advised of that fact.
The Burleigh Heads Soccer Club took to Fcebook last night to share with members a statement advising that Football Gold Coast had cancelled the 2020 season during a meeting on Thursday evening.
Coast soccer boss Damien Bresic says the statement was the product of a club “who didn’t listen.”
“I can categorically say we will be offering some form of football before December 31 and hopefully well before then,” Bresic said.
“I can 100 per cent say, categorically, that the season is not cancelled.
“As soon as we get the green light football will go ahead.
“We had planned to notify all members via our database on Wednesday but clubs wanted time to do it their way first.
“Once a Burleigh members gets our release they’ll wonder why FGC and Burleigh are saying different things.”

Clubs deny reports they are withdrawing from the 2020 Gold Coast Premier League
Bresic said Football Queensland had advised clubs in a series of Zoom meetings on Thursday that circumstances would prevent the delivery of the 2020 season as originally intended.
Bresic stressed that the season would be modified to fit government regulations surrounding public gatherings but that every player who wanted to play would have that chance, whether through a shortened season, carnival-type events or five-a-side play.
“We only said that we can’t deliver what we set out to due to time constraints,” the general manager said.
“The Premier League needs 25 weeks to run so if we come back on July 1 it will take until January before we can finish.
“Burleigh’s statement on their website is sort of accurate because everything that was planned is no more, but we’ll be reviewing and modifying so we’re just waiting for that green light (from the Government to proceed.”
Commenters on the Burleigh post expressed their confusion as the messaging contradicted other clubs posts.
