After completing their pre-season in February and squeezing in two games before the league was shut down, the Rabbits have Adam Bilcock to the United Kingdom, Keenan Tuck to college in the United States and Shun Katagiri to Japan.

More than 50 players trialled for the vacant spots in the squad and while trials are still underway, Robina has locked away former BX Brussels and Royale Union Saint Gilliose defender Thibaud Pontone.

“It was very hard co-ordinating trials and being COVID-19 safe compliant,” Mulhearn said.

“We had different sessions taking place, I was spread thin for a couple of weeks.

“But to unearth someone of Thibaud’s quality was worth it.

“We hope to sign a few more after we see them in a trial this week, but there is some promise.”

Despite losing his international trio back to their homelands, Mulhearn is confident he has the depth and talent to replace them.

Robina still boast experienced players like Dean Wernerson, Daniel Grzic, Curtis Stollery and Brandon Chinn who Mulhearn expects to spearhead his side’s championship quest.

“Adam was set to light the league up this season with his touch and set pieces.

“Shun was dynamic against Broadbeach and showed signs that he could be one of the top wingers in the league.

“You can’t just replace players of their calibre, but we believe

we have some players already who can step up.

“Young Max Lines has come back after the break ready to put his best foot forward to take over from Adam.

“We also have Shingo Miyamori ready to step into Shun’s role, he has a lot of quality and can beat players for fun.”

Robina are set to start their second round of pre-season games this afternoon against Coast League 1 side Tweed Heads ahead of the Premier League season restart on July 25.
