The pursuit of Matildas by the world’s leading football leagues is set to continue with Katrina Gorry poised to join Australian teammate Mackenzie Arnold at West Ham.
According to the BBC, Gorry held talks with West Ham manager Rehanne Skinner during the European summer and is likely to confirm her move from Swedish club Vittsjo GIK.
West Ham is reportedly also interested in a third Matildas player, Charlotte Grant who, like Gorry, has recently left Vittsjo GIK.
Arsenal is among the other Women’s Super League clubs to show interest in Grant, having already signed Kyra Cooney-Cross to join Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord after the World Cup.
Gorry took to social media earlier this month to announce her departure from Vittsjo GIK.
“Thank you for giving me this opportunity, for welcoming us with open arms and for taking care of our little girl. Thank you to our incredible supporters, to my team, to our coaching staff and most of all our incredible Nannie’s,” she wrote.
“This has become our home for the last two years but it’s time to say goodbye and set
off on a new adventure. I came here with a 6-month-old and I’m leaving with a bilingual 2-year-old, a beautiful fiance and people that will hold a place in our hearts forever.”
Gorry’s anticipated move to West Ham would further expand the Matildas’ footprint in the WSL ahead of the January transfer window following Australia’s fourth-place finish at this year’s World Cup.
Sam Kerr (Chelsea) and Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy (Manchester City) are among the headline acts, with Teagan Micah (Liverpool) also impressing on debut last weekend.
Courtney Nevin (Leicester City) and Clare Wheeler (Everton) are also featuring in the WSL, meaning the Matildas contingent could swell to 12 should Gorry and Grant sign on with West Ham.
