Matildas star Katrina Gorry has announced the impending arrival of her second child with fiancee Clara Markstedt in a sweet post on Instagram featuring the couple’s two-year-old daughter Harper.
The post, shared on Thursday morning, included four photos of Gorry’s young and growing family, while also showing ultrasound images of the couple’s next baby.
The post was captioned “adding more love to our love story” and was immediately flooded with loving messages from Matildas stars and fans.
“So much love for the 3 of you, @charli_grant and I are going to be the best aunties,” Matildas midfielder Kyra Cooney-Cross wrote.
“Omg congrats,” wrote Matildas veteran Kyah Simon.
Gorry and Markstedt had been teammates at Swedish club Vittsjo GIK up until a couple of weeks ago, but both are now on the move with Markstedt recently announcing her retirement and Gorry, 31, rumoured to be on the move to a top club in Europe or the United States.
“To my @vittsjogikofcl family, THANK YOU,” Gorry wrote on Instagram as she said goodbye to her Swedish club.
“Thank you for giving me this opportunity, for welcoming us with open arms and for taking care of our little girl.
“Thank you to our incredible supporters, to my team, to our coaching staff and most of all our incredible Nannies.
“This has become our home for the last 2 years but it’s time to say goodbye and set off on a new adventure. I came here with a 6-month-old and I’m leaving with a bilingual 2-year-old, a beautiful fiancee and people that will hold a place in our hearts forever.”
Gorry gave birth to her daughter in 2021 after undergoing IVF treatment.
She took some time away from football but returned to the Matildas in 2022 before starring at this year’s Women’s World Cup.
The veteran midfielder was then dragged into something of a social media storm after Channel 7 commentator David Basheer declared in commentary she had “retained her competitive instincts despite becoming a mother”.
However Gorry later said she wasn’t concerned by the comments.
“I’ve heard about it – I don’t take things like that too personally,” she said.
“I don’t really look at things like that but I can see how it got taken the wrong way.
“I’m sure he didn’t mean it in a negative way. Sometimes things just come out in the wrong way, but it is what it is.”
Earlier in 2023, Gorry and Markstedt announced their engagement, and are planning to get married in the Hamilton Islands in 2025.
“We’re going to try to keep it as traditional and beautiful as we can,” Gorry told Women’s Day in July.
“A lot of the Matildas have been my family for a long time so they were so excited for me.
“I’d love to have them there.”
