Gold Coast Knights smash Peninsula Power 3-0 as Shane Smeltz double secures win for United

The Gold Coast Knights last night made another emphatic NPL title statement against fellow heavyweights Peninsula Power, while Shane Smeltz was again the star for Gold Coast United.

Entering the game on the back of three-straight wins, including a 9-0 rout of Redlands seven days earlier, the Knights were rarely troubled by the Power as a Max Brown double handed them a 2-0 halftime lead.

KNIGHTS CAPTAIN NICHOLS OPENS UP ON PLAYING FUTURE

Defender Jaiden Walker then added a third goal early in the second half to all but kill the contest, with attacker Nick Panetta awarded man of the match honours after posing a constant threat to the visitors’ defence.

The Knights (12 points) now sit second with four-consecutive wins but have a game in hand on ladder-leading Lions (13 points).

Gold Coast United are sixth after picking up their second victory in a successful 2-1 visit to Mackay and Whitsundays on Saturday night.

The Surfsiders host the Power in Round 6 at 6pm on Saturday, while the Knights tackle Moreton Bay United at Carrara at 6.30pm.
