Jason Cummings suffered a last-gasp mishap as he prepared to make his Socceroos debut when he lost his passport.

The larger-than-life Scottish-born striker has reinvented himself on the other side of the world.

Only this week he was saying how he had started calling himself Cumdingo, rather than his previous nickname of Cumdog.

He had the chance to play his way into Australia’s World Cup plans against New Zealand this morning but first he was at the centre of a scrape when his passport was found near a McDonald’s at Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

Thankfully, his travel document was found safe and sound — and shared on the ‘Bondi Local Loop’ Facebook page in an attempt to find its original owner.

One user wrote: “My housemate found this passport in the street in Bondi Beach near McDonald’s a few days ago. Belongs to a Jason Cummings.

“If anyone knows him let me know it’s been found and if not claimed will be handed to the police station when we drive down Thursday.”

Punters were surprised to find out that the lost passport - with recognisable picture and bearing the name Jason Steven Cummings - belonged to a Socceroos star.

One said: “famous guy - he was in the news today!!

Another wrote: “Blokes a pro footballer”

A third said: “lol he plays for the Socceroos”.

The Aussie national team are playing home and away friendlies against New Zealand over the next few days, and are due at Eden Park, Auckland on Sunday.

Another respondent on the facebook group wrote: “lol aren’t they going to New Zealand soon... think he might need it”

Thankfully the passport mishap all seems to have been sorted - and returned to the Central Coast Mariners star.

But the scrape wasn’t entirely out of character for Cummings, who has become a fan favourite throughout his football career.

He said recently: “I can’t change my character! Had a few good managers, few bad ones over the years.

“Some managers like who I am, my character and style. I’ve heard that my whole career, you know.

“Especially in Scotland - it’s not as bad over here, in Scotland it’s 10 times worse for that. I think a lot of people in Scotland forgot me as a player,” he said.

“I’m more remembered about my personality and things, from interviews or whatever.

“My main focus, really, was to come to Australia and do the talking on the pitch.

“I’ve come over here and started again, a clean slate, I’ve reinvented myself in Australia and the A-League, and I’ve been rewarded with this call-up.“To be fair, when you do the talking on the pitch, you can do the talking off the pitch as well. That’s just me. I’ve always been like that, I’ve never changed.”
