Brisbane Roar skipper Tom Aldred and his central defensive partner Kai Trewin are set to play their final match for the club on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium against Adelaide United.
Aldred, who has captained the team in each of the 115 matches he has played in all competitions since joining the club in 2019, has been unable to agree to terms with the Roar on a new contract.
The 33-year-old England-born former Scotland under-19 international, who recently became an Australian citizen, is understood to have attracted interest from the Western Sydney Wanderers, as well as Indian Super League club Kerala Blasters.
Aldred was also in the sights of South Korean outfit FC Seoul during the January/February transfer window but the move didn’t eventuate as the centre-back was yet to receive his citizenship papers.
Trewin is also off-contract with Brisbane and has been linked with a move to Melbourne City.
The 22-year-old Batesman Bay product has, like Aldred, made 115 appearances in all competitions in a senior Roar career that started in March, 2020.
However, one player who is set to stay at the club is goalkeeper Macklin Freke, who was on Monday night awarded the Gary Wilkins Medal after being named the club’s player of the season.
Freke is expected to sign a new two-year deal after enjoying the best season of his A-League career under the tutelage of Roar goalkeeper coach and former Socceroos custodian Frank Juric.
Irish star Jay O’Shea won the players’ player award, while teenage striker Thomas Waddingham was named Brisbane’s young player of the year.
