If there was a weekend on the Gold Coast you wouldn’t want to miss, it would be this one according to Suns fan Nicholas New.

Both the Suns and Titans open their seasons on Saturday but they won’t just be competing against their on-field opponents.

They will be going up against one of Australia’s biggest horse racing events held at the Gold Coast Turf Club on Saturday, Queensland Jewel Raceday on Saturday.

While also taking on the some of the best surfers when they compete at Australian Boardriders grand final at Burleigh on Saturday and Sunday.

Suns fan Nicholas New said there is no better place to be for sport this weekend.

“It is an incredible spectacle to have so many amazing sports here on the Coast,” New said.

“Speaking from an AFL point of view, it’s awesome to really see the competition buy into the northern states to grow the game.

“But from a community point of view, it just shows that this is the place to be this weekend for all sports.

“Horse racing, surfing, NRL and AFL, its bloody awesome.”

The Suns will run out for the first time in the clubs history in front of a sold out crowd for their first game of the season.

“We can’t wait, my boy and I will be screaming at the top of our lungs at the game,” New said.

“Hopefully it creates more members buying into the Suns and the competition.

“It will be an awesome game, you wouldn’t want to miss it.

“Incredible for the Suns to sell out opening round.”

Suns star Alex Sexton said a packed house just adds to the hype for the season.

“It will be awesome to run out in front of a packed house on Saturday,” Sexton said.

“It is such an incredible feeling, you get the buzz from the crowd as you enter the stadium.

“To sell it out for this clash with the Tigers, could not ask for a better way to start the year.

“Well chuck a win in with it, that will top it off.”

Gold Coast and Richmond clash at People’s Choice Stadium on Saturday at 3:20pm.
