Gold Coast Women of the Year finalist Emerson Jones has continued her impressive feats on the tennis court - winning a Sydney pro tournament at just 16.
Jones, a finalist in the Young Women category - which is sponsored by Glitter Girl founder and former winner Sophia Rizzo - won the Perpetual NSW Open at Sydney Olympic Park on Sunday.
Jones, a world junior number one, beat 19-year-old fellow Aussie Taylah Preston - ranked 160 in the world - 6-4 7-6 in a hard-fought final.
Jones was a wildcard entry into the pro tournament and knocked out three fellow Australian pros all ranked inside the top 200 in the world on her way to the title.
She also downed Australian world number 126 and tournament top seed Talia Gibson in the semi, having beaten world number 167 Destanee Aiava, also an Aussie, in the quarters.
Jones told Tennis Australia: “I’ve played some of my best tennis this week and I am really proud of what I have accomplished. I couldn’t have done it without my team and know my family are watching at home in Queensland.
“It was a tough final and Taylah played amazing.”
Earlier this year she became the world’s number one ranked junior player and was the runner-up at Junior Wimbledon.
