The drought is finally over for the Illawarra Hawks.
After 24 long years without an NBL title, the Hawks reached the promised land on Sunday when they beat Melbourne United in a do-or-die game five in front of a raucous WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre crowd.
Will Hickey was the star of the show for the Hawks, picking up 21 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in a dominant performance.
“I’m just so proud of us, man,” Hickey said. “We were down, we were out, it’s the grit that we showed [after] two losses on our home court to come out and to come out and finish it here tonight, that’s made me really emotional.”
