Aussie boxer Nikita Tszyu has welcomed his first child who he named after a NASA Mars rover and vowed to use the principles of a Japanese code of conduct as a guide to raising her.
Tszyu and his wife Nikita Bedwell, who married in January in a hugely secret ceremony, have named their daughter Curiosity.
“Curiosity is the passion that drives us through our everyday lives. It is this powerful force of curiosity which has led humans to become explorers, scientists, historians and artists,” Tszyu said in a post on Facebook.
“Curiosity is the everlasting flame burning in all of us that compels us to ask questions, to wonder, to learn, to grow and to know.
“As parents, we hope our daughter’s name will give her the courage and strength to explore life without fear. May her own curious mind be the guiding compass leading the way as she grows to understand herself and the world around her.”
Nikita, brother of Tim Tszyu and son of champion fighter Kosta Tszyu, said that as Curiosity’s parents, he and his wife vowed to “nurture her spirit of adventure and use the principles of the Japanese Bushido ‘The Way of The Warrior’ as a guide to raising her”.
The youngest member of Australia’s most famous boxing family married his girlfriend in January this year, with the couple’s respective fathers and the groom’s big brother Tim the only witnesses.
Tszyu has always been a private person who generally shies away from the spotlight.
He made his pro debut three years ago, taking the ring four times, and fighting in 2023 and 2024.
Paperwork is reportedly being drawn up for Tszyu to take on rival Michael Zerafa in an Australian showdown before Christmas.
The bad blood between the two Aussie camps has been compared to comes to that of rivals Anthony Mundine and Danny Green 20 years ago.
